The last few weeks I’ve been hard at work getting my hands dirty in the garden. Hundreds (maybe thousands?) of seedlings have been hardened off in front of the greenhouse for a few days before being transplanted into the flower gardens.
A new addition to my gardening arsenal, the broadfork, has been a great tool to help loosen the soil and remove weeds without completely turning over the soil in an effort to preserve soil life. And yes, I have some callouses to show for it!
I’m also experimenting with using alfalfa as a natural fertilizer as well as using mychorrizae to reduce transplant shock and boost root associations in the soil.
By the end of the week, the last beds should be seeded and all the transplants in the ground!
