A little throwback to one of my in-person Paint a Mug with Rosa sessions 🌹🎨

This is one of my favourite parts of teaching. That moment when everyone looks around at what they’ve created and realises, “I actually did that!” 💖

Different styles, different personalities and absolutely no need to arrive believing you’re an artist.

I’ve been looking back at some of my previous workshops as I prepare for my next Canal Art workshop in Colchester, and this made me smile. 😊🌹

There’s something rather lovely about getting a group of people around a table, putting the everyday world on mute for a few hours, and simply painting together.

This is why I love teaching. 🎨

New week, fresh energy and I’m back in my happy place surrounded by paint, brushes and Canal Art roses 🎨🌹

The Summer August Canal Art workshop is now only 12 days away and it’s starting to feel very real.

🌹 The studio is coming to life… 🎨

I’m busy preparing paints, brushes and everything you’ll need for a relaxing afternoon of traditional Canal Art.

Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush before or simply fancy trying something completely different, I’ll guide you step by step to create your own beautiful floral design to take home.

There’s something rather special about watching a blank surface slowly bloom into colourful roses. Here I am prepping the canvases for you. 🌹✨

🌹 What if the next chapter of my colourful journey begins in Essex… with you?

For the past few years, Canal Art has travelled with me through narrowboat life, creative retreats, workshops, changing landscapes and even across the sea to a Caribbean island 🏖️ Wherever I go, the roses seem to follow. 🎨✨

Now, Rosa Lea is briefly coming to Essex.

I’m planning an intimate four-hour Canal Art workshop where you’ll paint a simplified version of one of my original floral designs onto canvas. You do not need painting experience. You do not need to arrive feeling creative. Just bring yourself, and I’ll guide you through the process step by step.

Your canvas will be ready to hang, all materials are included, and you’ll leave with your own colourful piece of Canal Art inspired artwork.

🌹 Hidden in the Roses Fact

Despite the name Roses and Castles, traditional Canal Art was not limited to roses or castles.

Painters also included cottages, churches, bridges, lakes and imaginary landscapes. In fact, the scenes could become tiny painted worlds, built from the artist’s own collection of shapes, details and ideas. No two castles needed to be exactly the same.

That is one of the things I love about this tradition. It has recognisable features and unwritten rules, but there is still room for the painter’s own hand and personality to shine through. 🎨
