The carpet manufacturer Ruckstuhl, based in Langenthal, Switzerland is a producer of high quality acoustic panels and carpets made from natural fibres. With around forty employees, natural raw materials are processed to make objects of cultural value. The raw ingredients of all products are renewable textile fibres obtained from life animals or plants in nature.

MODULAR BY DESIGN, TIMELESS BY NATURE

Inspired by the radical clarity of 1960s brutalist architecture, TAHITI TILES combine the raw beauty of coconut fibre with modular functionality. The coconut yarn originates in Sri Lanka, while every tile is woven and manufactured in Switzerland.

Designed for longevity, TAHITI TILES have remained in use in some projects for more than 50 years. Thanks to their modular system, only heavily worn tiles need replacing, significantly reducing material consumption and extending the life of the floor.

TAHITI TILES can be installed as a floating floor, usually without adhesive. Individual tiles can be replaced, rearranged or expanded at any time – a flexible, resource-conscious flooring solution that has stood the test of time.

Inspiriert von der Klarheit brutalistischer Architektur der 1960er-Jahre verbinden TAHITI TILES die archaische Schönheit der Kokosfaser mit modularer Funktionalität. Das Kokosgarn stammt aus Sri Lanka, die gesamte Weiterverarbeitung bis zur fertigen Fliese erfolgt in der Schweiz.

TAHITI TILES stehen für Langlebigkeit: In einigen Projekten sind sie seit über 50 Jahren im Einsatz. Dank des modularen Systems werden nur einzelne, stark beanspruchte Fliesen ersetzt – das spart Material, schont Ressourcen und verlängert die Lebensdauer des Bodens.

Die Fliesen können schwimmend verlegt werden und benötigen in der Regel keinen Klebstoff. Sie lassen sich jederzeit austauschen, ergänzen oder neu anordnen – eine zeitlose Bodenlösung, die bis heute nichts von ihrer Aktualität verloren hat.

Today, „Frame in Frame - Swiss Design in Motion“, the official Swiss contribution to 2026, opens in New York.
Presented by the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York and curated by .herren, the exhibition occupies the 19th floor of the WSA building overlooking Manhattan and brings together recently rediscovered experimental films produced in Switzerland between the 1960s and 1990s.
The films were created within the educational programme
„Film+Design“ at the Basel School of Design (), initiated by Armin Hofmann. At an early stage, the program explored how graphic design could be conceived for television and electronic image media. These works stand among the precursors of what is now called motion design, while also resonating with the structural cinema of their time. Many of the films rely on repetition, minimal shifts, or typographic sequences, generating a visual intensity far removed from the cliché of sober Swiss design.
Artist transforms the material into a multi-channel video and audio installation. The scenography by incorporates their modular „Anagram Sofa“ for , the „Hall Lamps“, and a custom configuration developed specifically for the exhibition. Ben Ganz () reconfigures Andreas Christen’s „Aluminium Shelf“ by into a pentagonal projection architecture, within whose openings films from Basel appear alongside works from the project „Permutations“.
Late-modern Swiss systems thinking thus encounters moving images that translate similar constructive principles into flickering sequences and optical instability. The „Stripes“ rug by Trix and Robert Haussmann, produced by and edited with .on_h, together with the „Cloud Lamp“ by Susi and Ueli Berger, produced by .form, expands this dialogue through unstable patterns, diffused light, and a more open interpretation of the Swiss Style.

RUCKSTUHL AND BUREAU HINDERMANN WIN THE IF AWARD 2026  To showcase our new Trix & Robert Haussmann Collection , created the installation WIDER SPIEGELN for us at the .naturalcare store in Zurich mainstation.  Eight round mirrors formed a circle, framing the Stripes rug, which, laid out on a platform, fully revealed its illusionist black-and-white pattern. The mirrors echoed a central motif in the work of Trix & Robert Haussmann. Anyone entering the exhibition in the centre experienced a kaleidoscopic interplay of space and object.

For WIEDER SPIEGELN, Ruckstuhl AG, in collaboration with Bureau Hindermann, has been awarded the Award 2026 in the category Interior Architecture / Trade Fairs / Temporary Exhibitions.

Since its inception in 1953, the iF Design Award has been regarded as one of the most internationally renowned seals of quality for outstanding design. Every year, over 1,100 participants from more than 30 countries take part; from around 2,300 entries, an independent, international jury selects the winning projects.

 Zur Präsentation unserer neuen Trix & Robert Haussmann Collection, realisierte Bureau Hindermann für Ruckstuhl die Installation WIDER SPIEGELN für uns im Soeder Store im Zürich HB.  Acht runde Spiegel formierten sich zu einem Kreis und rahmten den Teppich Stripes, der auf einem Podest liegend sein illusionistisches Schwarz-Weiss-Muster voll entfaltete. Die Spiegel griffen ein zentrales Motiv im Werk von Trix & Robert Haussmann auf. Wer die Ausstellung betrat, erlebte eine kaleidoskopische Überlagerung von Raum und Objekt.

Für WIEDER SPIEGELN wird Ruckstuhl AG gemeinsam mit Bureau Hindermann mit dem iF Design Award 2026 in der Kategorie Interior Architecture / Trade Fairs / Temporary Exhibitions ausgezeichnet.

Der iF Design Award gilt seit seiner Einführung im Jahr 1953 als eines der international renommiertesten Gütesiegel für herausragende Gestaltung. Jährlich nehmen über 1.100 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer aus mehr als 30 Ländern teil; aus rund 2.300 Einreichungen wählt eine unabhängige, international besetzte Jury die ausgezeichneten Projekte aus.

The palm is a wonder of nature: everything, absolutely everything from the roots to the trunk and its leaves to the (unripe and ripe) fruits can be used, either eaten, drunk or processed.

Approximately 13,000 coconuts are needed to produce one tonne of coconut yarn. To be more precise, the nut is the inner part of the fruit. The fibres we use to make our yarn come from the protective shell that surrounds the nut. A total delivery of 11.5 tonnes therefore requires around 147,095 coconuts. For many generations, we have been sourcing our coconut yarn from the same family business in Colombo (Sri Lanka).

The arrival of a container of coconut yarn is always a special event for us, even today – 145 years after the first Ruckstuhl carpet made of coconut was produced. 🌴🥥

Die ist ein Wunder der Natur: Alles, wirklich alles von den Wurzeln über den Stamm und seinen Blättern bis zu den (unreifen und reifen) Früchten kann verwendet werden, entweder gegessen, getrunken oder verarbeitet.

Um eine Tonne Kokosgarn herzustellen, werden ca. 13’000 Kokosfrüchte benötigt. Denn genauer gesagt ist die Nuss der Innenteil der Frucht. Die Fasern, aus denen wir unser Garn herstellen, stammen aus dem Schutzmantel, der die Nuss umgibt. Für insgesamt 11.5 Tonnen einer Lieferung kommt man dann also auf etwa 147’095 Kokosfrüchte. Seit vielen Generationen beziehen wir übrigens das Kokosgarn vom selben Familienbetrieb in Colombo (Sri Lanka).

Die Ankunft eines Containers mit Kokosgarn ist für uns immer wieder aufs Neue ein Ereignis, auch heute noch – 145 Jahre nachdem der erste Ruckstuhl-Teppich aus Kokos hergestellt wurde. 🌴🥥
