For this interior project in Switzerland we have organized a layout of working spaces that meet the requirements of technological procedure of precious stones sampling. Each of the zones response to different needs that are reflected in various furniture objects that have been developed for this project. A concrete frame of the existing building wrapped around by a fully glassed aluminium facade suggested the palette of new added materials. In order to intensify the architectural esthetics of an existing structure, we have chosen aluminium and silky gray MDF as a basic materials for design.

The organization of a factory, which is specialised in the production of dials requires a clear division of technological processes, as well as spatial flexibility for each unit of the production chain. Our aim was to develop a flexible modular system that allows us to organize workspaces and storage for each of the functional units. Modules have different options: open shelves, drawers, opening doors, etc. in order to make different configurations of storage islands and workplaces.
The material of the modules is brown colored MDF accompanied by bronze handles using the technology of metal sheet bending. Such choice is an allusion to the combination of massive walnut wood and cast bronze elements that has been used in manufacturing of the luxury classic furniture. We see a sort of irony in transmitting this distorted «impression of the wealth» to the working class environment that is dealing with processing of precious materials.

Japanese Restaurant in Switzerland, Montreux.
132,8 м2

In the context of “nowadays” the stability is not a dominant market factor, architecture and internal spaces are forced to enjoy flexibility.

Our task was first of all to create anonymous space that does not make an artistic emphasis on operational processes. The essentials are - simple organizational composition and aesthetical combination of textures and materials.

In the center of given space two walls, clad with the opposite in their physical properties materials (polished metal and illuminating acrylic) are intersected creating four “rooms” to fit in the program of the restaurant.

The palette of materials comes down to light monochrome "earthy" textures with black accents of furniture. Tables and bar-desk are made of inhomogeneous acrylic mixtures, which creates the effect of the "loose" surface.

Thinking about common problems that appear in Ukrainian housing development once the newly built structure is inhabited (such as chaotic logia glazing and air conditioner mounting etc.) we came up with the solution that balances between the comfort of an individual user and the esthetical features of the building that brings benefits to the community.

60 cm deep logia made of lightweight steel structure makes it not profitable for the user to glaze it in order to gain more inside space, as it would be usually done in case the logia is a cantilevering concrete slab and has at least the depth of 120 cm.

In our design proposal, the logia stretches over the width of the apartment and can be reached through the fully glazed double door. Here is enough space to put on a chair and enjoy the weather during the warm seasons. The air conditioner could be mounted on the facade behind a steel mesh railing that is also ideal for the climbing plants during the summertime which gives the building a more friendly outfit.
