💍Unusual shape of Fomalhaut’s debris ring shows evidence of sculpting by ancient planets, rewriting story of planetary system evolution.

🌀The disk is closer to the star in the south, where the disk is wider and fainter, and further from the star in the north, where the disk is narrower and brighter. The dotted ring shows the possible orbit of a planet implied by Lovell et al.

Will we ever see it explode? 👀
📡ALMA Reveals Long-Lived Hotspots on Betelgeuse’s Bubbling Surface.

⭐️The observations show bright hotspots and an irregular, corrugated outline shaped by the enormous motions taking place within the star.

✨Located roughly 600 light-years from Earth, Betelgeuse is one of the closest red supergiants and has a radius about 800 times that of the Sun. Its immense size makes it possible for ALMA to resolve structures across its atmosphere that would remain hidden in most other stars.

➡️ is approaching the final stages of its evolution and will eventually explode as a supernova.

📡"ALMA Study Finds Molecular Cloud Streamer Tilted GW Orionis’ Planet-Forming Ring" By Tech Times

A one-trillion-mile (approximately 1.6 trillion km, or about 0.2 light-years) stream of molecular gas cascading into a young triple-star system 1,300 light-years away appears to be the primary agent responsible for tilting that system's outermost planet-forming dust ring — and a new paper published today in The Astronomical Journal argues the same mechanism may explain why so many alien planets end up on tilted, chaotic, or even backwards orbits around their host stars.

📡"A 'river' of cosmic gas 1 trillion miles long sent planets in the Orion constellation into tilted orbits" We are on Space.com

✨A rare planet-forming disk around a young triple-star system in the Orion constellation has been tipped over by a river of gas over 1 trillion miles (1.6 trillion kilometers) long. The discovery, made at radio wavelengths with ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile, could explain why astronomers keep finding planets with orbits that are drastically misaligned with the rotational axes of their stars.

📡We've captured a 1.6 trillion kilometer gas stream feeding the GW Orionis triple star system.

✨ALMA has mapped a roughly one-trillion-mile gas streamer feeding GW Orionis, linking late-stage infall from the surrounding cloud to the triple-star system’s strikingly misaligned planet-forming rings.

➡The observations provide the clearest evidence yet that late infall from a system’s natal cloud can help tilt and reshape a protoplanetary disk.

〰The streamer extends approximately 12,000 astronomical units—about 0.2 light-years, or roughly one trillion miles—from the disk. By tracing its motion in carbon monoxide, the team found that the incoming gas meets the disk at its outermost dust ring and carries angular momentum closely aligned with that ring, while remaining strongly misaligned with the innermost ring.

🙌🏻What a great team ALMA! Clearing the snow from the road to the antennas on the Chajnantor Plateau. The temperature is -15°C with a wind speed of 54 km/h, giving a wind chill of -31°C.❄️

📡The "Otto and Lore" transporters move the antennas. They can be placed on the 192 different foundations scattered across the Chajnantor Plateau. This is a job that requires great care: they must be positioned with an accuracy of less than one millimeter!
