◾𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒔! They’re not the dramatic, heavy barley twists you see. These are delicately twisted, almost restrained, enough movement to catch the light without becoming fussy, and that subtlety is one of the things that makes this piece so beautiful.

◾𝒍𝒇 𝑱𝒂𝒄𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 𝒊𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏... This lovely early-20th-century interpretation is for you!

Don't even get me started on those lovely barley-twist legs because it would make this post too long.
However, the drawer fronts are probably my favourite part. All those stepped, angular mouldings create this wonderful little architectural rhythm (almost like miniature frames within frames).

Now let's talk grain, the oak grain suddenly becoming part of the decoration is not an accident either that is the result of bleaching and washing certain varieties of wood, so yeah.. we do that often.

And then there is the hardware. 🤍
We ended up loving the decision to introduce those small porcelain pulls with dark metal fittings. They completely change the character of the piece without fighting its history. Against the warm, quieter oak, they feel almost like little pieces of jewellery.

In our experience the use of more contemporary hardware in dressers like this creates a little tension between the old craftsmanship and the new life we give our furniture. And sometimes that can be much more interesting than trying to make it look as though the piece has never been touched.

◾𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧.

When this cabinet arrived at our workshop, there was nothing wrong with it.
It was solid, beautifully made, and had clearly been loved for years. But its deep mahogany finish no longer reflected the home it lived in, or the people who lived with it. Our client dreamed of something softer, and as we removed the old finish, the wood slowly revealed itself. Every grain, every subtle variation reminded us of why we do what we do... Not to replace the old, but to help it belong in the present.

And what makes Spanish furniture fascinating is that it rarely chased trends. While French furniture often pursued elegance and ornamentation, Spanish makers tended to favor honesty, durability, and character. The beauty came from the wood, the ironwork, and the marks left by generations of use.

This piece is fascinating because it doesn't feel like a conventional bench/console table at all. It has the presence of something older, almost architectural. The softened edges, the deep weathered wood tones, the visible age marks, and those iron stretchers underneath give it a collected, Spanish farmhouse character that many home owners are actively looking to incorporate into their homes right now.
What we especially love about this project is that we managed not to erase its history. The crack in the top, the knots, and the movement of the wood are all details that become part of the story rather than flaws that need to be hidden.

This was a lovely transformation that made our client immediately fall in love with the results.
The original glossy red mahogany finish gave the table a much heavier, more formal presence. By stripping away the shine and moving toward this soft, natural wood tone, we completely changed its personality. The curves feel lighter, the craftsmanship becomes more visible, and the piece now fits beautifully into modern organic interiors while still honoring its French provincial roots.

A restored French Provincial walnut dresser with delicate hand-carved floral motifs and a washed finish that feels almost sun-faded by memory alone.
