The Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, was built in the mid-13th century by the Nasrid rulers as a royal fortress and residence. It is one of the most important examples of Islamic architecture in Europe. The complex includes palaces, defensive walls, gardens, and courtyards that show the advanced design and craftsmanship of the time.

Design Stories: A Carlo Bugatti Chair.

While studying interior design in London, I visited an exhibition on the Bugatti family, not just the carmakers Ettore Bugatti and his son Jean, but also Carlo Bugatti, whose furniture was unlike anything I’d seen. Ornate, eccentric, layered with detail.

Years later in Brussels, I wandered into the gallery of Philippe Denise, a respected dealer of modernist design. We started talking, and I mentioned my curiosity about Bugatti’s work and how unique it was.

To my surprise, he told me he had a single Bugatti dining chair, once part of Carlo’s furnishings for his sculptor son Rembrandt’s home in Antwerp.

It’s one of the pieces I’m happy to own, a small token of furniture design history.

Why I love dining in Paris: The food is always fresh, seasonal, and really delicious. In most high-end restaurants, the seating is very comfortable, with low tables and chairs that have armrests. The tables are dressed with crisp white tablecloths, and as soon as you order, you’re served a basket of warm bread with amazing butter. Choosing a wine to pair with your food is taken seriously, and the staff usually help you pick the best option. Classic French dishes are still on the menu, and they’re just as good as you’d hope.
