AI this, AI that, some even commented that it could “create” faster and better than me. What they don’t understand is that the whole purpose of this is in the process, and not the result.
Because I love sketching, painting with watercolors, mixing the pigments, studying the lights and shadows, the colors, the textures, the tiny details.. all the elements that come together to capture the mood of special moments from my travels.
It allows me to indulge myself in the scene once more, to remember and make these memories stronger.

My watercolor urban portraits (or sketches) are all about the tiny details. There’s always so much to discover when observing my paintinga, that social media posts can’t portray everything..

👇 My second challenge for Inktober was to combine ink with watercolor to paint hands.
(I don’t usually paint anatomy or human parts, I specialise in urban portraits).
I used my PEN to create the sketch and washed with three basic watercolors to bring it to life.

I always prepare a detailed sketch and usually start by blocking out the shadows with a blueish grey or ultramarine blue, and the loghts with a warm yellow.
I then paint the base colors and build the contrast layer by layer.
I finally add all the tiny details with paint or mechanical pencil.
