🐅 Tiger's Eye — Prieska–Griekwastad Region, South Africa 🇿🇦
The Northern Cape is home to some of the world's most famous Tiger's Eye deposits — especially the region between Prieska and Griekwastad. For over a century it's been a major source of this golden chatoyant stone, prized by collectors and lapidary artists worldwide.
It forms within ancient iron-rich rock, where quartz replaced fibrous crocidolite while keeping its original structure — creating the silky bands and moving "cat's-eye" light known as chatoyancy.
Its golden, honey and brown tones turn especially vibrant when cut and polished — a favourite for cabochons, carvings, beads and ornaments.
Tied to some of the oldest iron-rich rocks on Earth, it carries a geological history spanning billions of years. ✨
