An exceptional hand-carved Black Forest bear chair dating to around 1880. Crafted in richly stained wood, the chair features a striking backrest with a fully sculpted standing bear framed by intertwined branches and oak leaves. The naturalistic seat imitates wood grain, while the legs are formed as tree trunks adorned with finely carved climbing bear cubs. Executed with remarkable detail and depth, this piece is a fine example of the celebrated woodcarving tradition at the turn of the 20th century in Brienz, Switzerland. Both sculptural and functional, it serves as a rare statement piece for collectors of alpine folk art, hunting décor, or antique rustic furniture.
