karo&auguste steht für experimentierfreudige, handgemachte und einzigartige Keramik. Dabei werden immer neue Glasur-, Gestaltungs- und Farbtechniken angewendet, wie die Arbeit mit Engobe, Sgraffito, Stempeln und Naturmaterialien.

I finally worked with anthracite coloured clay again! First I wasn't sure about some of the results but this vase with some shades of soft pink grew on me. What do you think? More dark clay or do you prefer the light clay colours?

My new online course about glazing is soon to be finished! I plan to release it end of April. You can already read all about it on my website, just follow the link in my bio. I'm answering your questions in my stories today as well and will put them into the highlight 'online courses'.

This course took me a while to finish because I wanted to give you lots of tips and knowledge not only about glazing, but also about how to clean your workspace properly and avoid the risk of harmful dust getting into your lungs, the importance of test tiles and how to make and use them, the glaze firing and much more. On my website I listed all chapters of the course and what I will be talking about in each of them.

Small jug in white and soft pink on sand coloured clay. ⁣

It's fun to make these jugs, satisfying to see them come together. I especially enjoy making the spout. And they pour perfectly! ☺️ Would you like to see some of these jugs in the next Onlineshop Update? They are really cute as vases too! ⁣

First tulips in my small Riverstone vase.⁣
I enjoy being at my workshop again, since every day is so nice and sunny and warm here lately. I remember why I loved working there so much last spring and summer, almost forgot about it over the winter. But the sound of birds, the warm light and feeling - everything is slowly coming back. ⁣

First shipping goes out tomorrow, but of course you will still be able to order after that. I usually prepare the shipping one day after an order has been placed and ship them two days after. ⁣⁣

About shipping ceramics safely ⁣

I've packed your orders and I will ship the first round tomorrow. If you place an order until today around 7pm it will be shipped tomorrow too. ⁣
⁣
I put a lot of thought into shipping my fragile items since I'm selling online. Especially with international shipping it's really important to pack all pieces properly since most shipping companies don't handle boxes very gently. ⁣
But I found a way to make sure that everything arrives safely at your homes. I use the following technique which has proved to be successful:⁣
First I pack my ceramics carefully in thick wrapping paper, then I fill a box with paper and place the item in the middle, covering everything with more paper. Finally I place the box into a bigger box and fill all the gaps with paper again. This way there's enough padding inside the two boxes to protect your ceramic piece. ⁣

Plus all packing materials I use are recycled 😊⁣

About the fear of opening the kiln⁣ -

I finally overcame my fear of opening the kiln! For a while I had some troubles when the time of unloading it after a glaze firing had come. Normally I've always been pretty excited, I've never been fearful, opening the kiln was like Birthday and Christmas in one 😉 But after I had a couple of bad firings last year, lots of leaking mugs and weird glaze outcomes, I kind of learned to hate these mornings when it was time to walk down the stairs to the basement and facing the moment of truth. Doesn't seem like such a big deal, ok, you loose some pieces, get over it... but it's different when you have to learn and realize exactly how much a firing, the materials and the work hours will cost you. Every broken or faulty piece becomes a bigger deal with that in mind. ⁣
I've solved the problem and since a few weeks now everything is going well again, yay 🙃 (okay, there are always some pieces that could be better) and I am so excited to share my new work with you! On Saturday I'm gonna put the preview online and on Sunday at 7pm my Shop Update will go live. ⁣

My two favourite mugs for the next Shop Update (this Sunday at 7pm cet). This shape is called chubby mug. It feels perfect in your hands, looks pretty cute and from former Shop Updates I know that these chubbys are really popular 🙂 I won't have many of these on Sunday, but I'm definitely planning to make more soon. These two are glazed in Stella Maris and Stormy Sea, one on beige clay with spots, the other on sand coloured clay. ⁣
