MEKADO is an international studio for Design, Architecture and Urbanism. The studio is based in Berlin and was founded in 2015 by the partners Slavis Poczebutas and Davide Prioli. MEKADO strives to develop individually tailored and sustainable design solutions for a wide range of challenges and programmes in design, architecture and planning. In our design, we value the process of experimentation
and pursue the sensual use of space, programme and materiality. Our design strategies focus on developing integrated and holistic solutions, going as far as involving the unplanned and unfinished as a part of this process. This adds a valuable and essential creative force to our planning approach. Our projects are developed in close dialogue with their environment and communities, tailored to the specific needs of their users. Moreover, we integrate the meaningful application of the latest technologies and the sensible use of existing and local resources into our work approach. The programmatic and strategic design approach plays an important role in our work. Before founding MEKADO, Slavis Poczebutas has worked as an Architect and Urban Planner in renowned offices internationally. After many years as a project leader in the Integrated Urbanism department at Arup in London, he moved to Hong Kong to boost and develop the Urban Design department at Arup Hong Kong. Subsequently, he moved to The Netherlands where he worked as Project Director for many years with Rem Koolhaas at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. At OMA he directed a diverse range of projects, such as the Axel-Springer Headquarters in Berlin, focusing on the intersection between architecture and urban planning. Davide Prioli has worked as an Architect in various young and experimental offices of the Dutch school in Rotterdam before founding MEKADO. Through his collaborations with offices like Shift and Powerhouse Company, he has developed and realised a wide range of cutting edge projects from small to large scale.
