Weiter geht es mit dem fünften Beitrag der diesjährigen „Kids Design Award Selection“ - es ist Halbzeit… 😊

Posted • After yesterday's contribution from "social design", today's topic is no less exciting: Sustainability - and how do I get the associated content across to the younger generations in a playful way?⠀

The two designers Catherine Haentges and Alexandra Lieb chose the cycle of planting processes, which they want to convey to children who are less familiar with the rural environment by means of a child-friendly raised bed.⠀

"FoodLoop" - sowing, harvesting - composting!⠀

Catherine and Alexandra are studying product design at the University of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd.⠀

FoodLoop:⠀
The child is able to learn and carry out the steps independently through illustrated manuals and suggestions, while the active experience of the natural processes not only supports the child’s health and development of motored skills, but also deepens the understanding and appreciation for its natural surroundings. The modular structure creates the possibility of several variants to assemble ‘FoodLoop’ all along enabling the children to use it both on their own as well as in groups. By implementing the product in educational institutions children from all social backgrounds are being reached. The innovation of the product lies within the uniformity of the set (raised garden bed, composter, informational material), which guides the children. Over the course of urbanization many have become increasingly unable to comprehend the production processes of groceries. This is where FoodLoop comes in by providing a beginner-friendly set, which facilitates the integration of natural processes in urban everyday life.⠀

Heute stellen wir euch einen weiteren Beitrag der „Kids Design Award Jury Selection 2021“ vor:

Posted • With today's representative of the "Kids Design Award 2021 Jury Selection", we introduce you to an exciting approach to "social design".⠀
The Iranian designer Reza Kaboudhmeri deals with the question of access to toys and the topic of "play" in general for children in poorer countries and circumstances in his contribution "dream mud".⠀

Reza studied industrial design at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran.⠀

dream mud:⠀
Every year, millions of poor children around the world face the effects of educational poverty from the very beginning of their childhood. It is essential that the principles of life that children learn between the ages of three and seven through playing with toys together are taught and learned. The mental and intellectual development that children gain from playing with these same toys is denied to less privileged children. The moulds used to make the dreammud mud puzzles are created from leftover grain from beer production and wheat and decorated with natural colours and resin. The children can create and play with their own mud puzzle by filling the moulds with mud and removing it afterwards.⠀

Und weiter geht‘s mit den Teilnehmern der diesjährigen „Jury Selection Kids Design Award“!

Posted • This Saturday, our presentation of the winning entries of the "Kids Design Award 2021 Jury Selection" is all about "children's furniture".⠀

The two German designers Nina Hacker and Lukas Konrad made it into the selection with their wardrobe "SDEGN", which is especially designed for use in kindergartens.⠀
We think the wardrobe cuts a good figure not only there! :)⠀

Nina and Lukas are currently studying "Integrated Product Design" at Coburg University of Applied Sciences.⠀

SDEGN:⠀
SDEGN is the optimal wardrobe for all kindergartens. Thanks to the modular system that grows with the child, the single elements can be attached individually, adapted to the size of the child. One of SDEGN's goals is to teach children order through play and to anchor this order in the child's mind. This should create a certain ritual that they can use not only in the kindergarten, but also everywhere else. To give each child a sense of welcome or belonging, each space can be individually designed. SDEGN also offers a smart solution for dirty clothes, such as rubber boots and muddy pants, to match the modular pegboard. These are stored in a separate locker system. Thanks to the airy perforated plate, open doors and a loose plug-in system, all wet and dirty clothes will now have their firm place.⠀

And the second winner:

Posted • Today we introduce the second participant of the Kids Design Award 2021, who made it into the "KDA 21 jury selection":⠀

German designer Janine Baumeister and her entry "Luca - Concept of a sustainable play product" managed to convince the jury.⠀

Janine completed her studies at the University of Applied Sciences Münster, where she graduated freshly this year - congratulations on that, too!⠀

Luca:⠀
Luca is a piece of furniture which unites play and interior. Its longevity makes the project outstanding. After its use as a dollhouse, Luca can further be applied as a sideboard. Miniature inventory transforms the furniture into a toy. The exposed design allows playing from all around and interaction with siblings. After the process of growing up, Luca offers presentational room for decorations. The dividing walls are free to relocate and therefore the shelves to be redefined over and over again.⠀

The waiting is over - now we will present the „Jury Selection Kids Design Award 2021“ here in our Instagram Channel - 10 days - 10 winners!
Posted • Today is the day!⠀

After a long wait, the jury selection for the Kids Design Awards 2021 is finally announced today.⠀

A reminder:⠀
This year, the jury did not name a winner - instead, they chose the "jury selection 2021" from the submissions.⠀
The ten participants of the jury selection are thus equally in the public eye!⠀

The German designer Christine Oehme and her "Werkelküche" will start the jury selection.⠀

Christine studied product design at the University of the Arts/Berlin, where she graduated in 2020.⠀

The “Werkelküche“ is a gender-open activity workstation that enables children to immerse themselves in free play worlds. In contrast to gender-linked and gender-segregated toys, the elements of the „Werkelküche“ offer diverse possibilities to play. The curved worktop can be used as a sink, workshop or ski slope. The side compartments can provide storage and hiding space or bake crispy rolls. With the help of the colorful and interchangeable tools, children can realize their ideas and imitate the world of adults in a playful way. The „Werkelküche“ combines the formal and aesthetic features of children's kitchens and workbenches. This opens up a wide range of play options that lie between, next to or beyond the tension between the kitchen and the workshop.⠀

Neuigkeiten vom Kids Design Award!!

Posted • This year, the nominees of the Kids Design Award will become the "Kids Design Award Selection"!

The nomination phase is over and the results are in.

Unlike in previous years, however, this year not THE winner will be chosen from the ten nominees.

Instead, the selected entries (10) will be presented on an equal footing as the "Kids Design Award Selection".

All nominees or selected participants will thus be in the public eye.

This is also based on a suggestion from our jury board.
This procedure is intended to better reflect the complexity of the submissions with regard to the different approaches, but also the different educational levels of the entrants.

The publication of the "Kids Design Award Selection" will take place on 09 September 2021 - the first day of Kind + Jugend 2021!

Therefore, dear participants of this year's competition, I would like to ask you for a little patience.

Enjoy the summer and stay excited! ☀️🏝🌊🤗

Posted • Today we would like to inform you that due to the still ongoing CoVid19 situation we have changed the conditions of participation for the Kids Design Award 2021. As we are aware that the pandemic has caused quite a stir in university teaching over the past few months, we have decided that a prototype is no longer a mandatory requirement for participation in the judging.⠀
If you have a fully developed concept but were unable to create a prototype for the reasons mentioned above, you can still submit the concept for judging. Of course, prototypes are still welcome. ⠀
We hope this will make it easier for you to participate and look forward to your submissions. ⠀
You can find the registration link in our bio!⠀
