# How to Make Shakriyah with Rice
Shakriyah with rice is a delicious and easy - to - make dish commonly found in many Arab cuisines. Here is a simple way to make it:
# # Ingredients
- One and a half cups of rice (Basmati or Jasmine rice is preferred).
- Three chicken breasts or three pieces of beef or lamb.
- Two medium - sized chopped onions.
- Three crushed garlic cloves.
- One teaspoon of turmeric.
- One teaspoon of dried onion.
- One teaspoon of ground cumin.
- One teaspoon of mixed spices.
- One teaspoon of salt.
- One teaspoon of ground red pepper (if you like it spicy).
- Vegetable oil for frying.
# # Steps
1. **Prepare the meat**: Cut the meat into small pieces. Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the meat and turn it until it changes color to brown.
2. **Add onions and garlic**: Put the chopped onions and crushed garlic into the pot. Sauté them until the onions turn slightly brown.
3. **Add the spices**: Add turmeric, dried onion, ground cumin, mixed spices, salt, and ground red pepper (if using) to the pot. Stir well so that all the spices blend with the meat.
4. **Add water**: Cover the meat with enough water to fully submerge it. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 3 - 4 minutes until the meat is cooked and absorbs the flavor of the spices.
5. **Rinse the rice**: Wash the rice several times until the water runs clear. Then soak the rice in water for 3 minutes.
6. **Add the rice to the pot**: Drain the water from the rice and add it to the pot containing the meat, onions, garlic, and spices. Add more water so that the water level is a few centimeters above the rice.
7. **Finish cooking**: Continue cooking over low heat, covered, until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed. You can then turn off the heat and let it sit covered for another 1 minutes to make the rice softer.
