Works by Nan Hoover (1931–2008), Anneliese Hager (1904–1997) and Maria Lassnig (1919–2014)

With this exhibition, the art gallery in Mannheim is showing three artists who only gained recognition in the art world late in life and are now among the most important representatives of their time. All three dealt with surrealism early on and found their own individual visual language in different ways: the unifying factor is the preoccupation with light, space and body as well as the existential question of self-perception and positioning in the world.

- The American Nan Hoover (1931–2008); Her early painterly works, most of which have never been exhibited before, revolve around the relationship between the sexes and sexuality and are close to Pop Art in terms of color power and formal language.
- The Austrian painter Maria Lassnig (1919–2014) is now one of the most important artists of the 20th century, but only achieved her international breakthrough late in the 1980s. After the Second World War, she dealt with Surrealism, tried out Informel, but soon found her own subject matter: the human body and self-portrait.

The unjustified lack of recognition of the artists' work is at the core of the purpose of the exhibition “Hoover Hager Lassing”.
