Recently I had the privilege of talking with Harriet, the woman from whom Esther purchased this beautiful quilt years ago. Harriet told me she had gathered quite a collection of antique quilts and that she and Esther both felt that this particular one should be among the MillersQuilting treasures.
However, she also informed me that the good people of Durham, England, would probably not be so pleased with Esther's description of the quilting as primitive. (😳 Our apologies if anyone was offended.) Indeed, Esther thought this quilt was beautiful, and she loved its seeming lack of precision in symmetry and uniformity. As she wrote in her book, "Today, this might be described as primitive, when really it is a treasure with history and character." ❤️
