Come as a stranger.
Leave as a friend.

That’s the idea behind Van Dost. A new hostel in Amsterdam built around the idea of friendship.

“Dost” means friend, and the concept grew from exactly that feeling: a place that is warm, relaxed and a little unexpected. A place where you come for a few nights, meet new people, share stories, and feel at home — even if you’ve just arrived in the city.
The rooms are young and playful, with bold colours, warm timber, soft curtains and details that make you want to look twice. Even the bunk beds are designed as little private worlds, while still keeping that feeling of being part of something bigger.
And today, this project became real.
We were on site and renovation has officially started. Seeing the first steps happening in the space we’ve been designing in 3D for so long is always a special moment.
Now we’re counting down to April 2027 — when Van Dost is planned to open its doors for the next tulip season.

Amsterdam, we’re getting ready for friends. 🌷

How much can you fit into one room?

This 38 m² one-room apartment needed to function as a complete home — with separate zones for living, dining, sleeping, working and even a walk-in wardrobe.
The challenge was to create all these functions without making the apartment feel divided or cramped.
The solution was to design the layout around movement.
The spaces connect in a continuous flow, with more than one way to move through the apartment. The bedroom connects to the walk-in wardrobe and bathroom, while the living area stays closely connected to the kitchen and dining space.
Sliding doors add another layer of flexibility: keep them open and the apartment feels spacious and connected. Close them, and the bedroom becomes a private retreat.

Nothing here is oversized.

It just works hard.

Do you prefer open-plan spaces where everything blends together — or do you like each area to have its own identity?

For us ⬇️

One living space. Not separate rooms

For this Kronberg house, the kitchen, dining area and living space were designed as one continuous environment.

Rather than making the kitchen the centre of attention, we wanted everything to work together — the proportions, materials, lighting and furniture — so that the transition between cooking, dining and living feels natural.

The restrained kitchen becomes part of the architecture, while the dining area adds warmth, colour and a more inviting focal point.
For us, this is what makes an open-plan space work: different functions, but one visual language.

Some transformations aren't about adding more. They're about knowing what truly matters.

This bedroom in Kronberg is a perfect example.
What was once an empty space became a calm and timeless retreat through thoughtful planning, bespoke detailing and a carefully balanced material palette.
Instead of following trends, we focused on proportions, natural light, texture and functionality, creating a bedroom that feels as good as it looks.

When we first visited the house, one thing immediately stood out: the garden.

Rather than competing with it, we wanted the interior to become its natural extension.

The colour palette was deliberately kept calm and understated. Warm woods, soft textiles and earthy tones create a quiet backdrop, allowing the changing colours of the garden to become part of the interior throughout the seasons.

The layout had its own challenge. Within one open space, we needed to create distinct areas for relaxing, dining and gathering around the fireplace - without interrupting the natural flow of the room.
Every piece of furniture was selected as part of that concept. Not to fill the space, but to define how it is used while keeping the connection between the different functions.

For us, a successful interior doesn't compete with its surroundings.

It allows them to become part of the experience.

Hello, we're Marina Oleynik and Alex Blommestijn, the founders of Insight Vision.

Since 2015, we've been designing interiors across Germany and Europe—from private homes and apartments to hotels and hospitality projects.
We believe every successful project starts the same way: by listening.
Understanding how people live, work or experience a space always comes before choosing materials, furniture or colours.
This page isn't just a portfolio.
It's where we'll share our projects, the ideas behind them, lessons from site visits, material selections, challenges we solve, and the countless decisions that transform a concept into a space people truly enjoy.

Whether you're planning your own project, work in the industry, or simply appreciate thoughtful design—we're glad you're here.

Welcome to Insight Vision.

This year Milan Design Week felt less about spectacular objects and more about how ideas are staged.
Many of the strongest presentations showed that installation can be more powerful than product.
Material research, tactile surfaces and collectible pieces shaped the narrative.
What stood out was not a radical new trend, but a refined evolution.
Less revolution, more precision.
And maybe that was the biggest takeaway from Milan 2026 — design is moving from object to experience.

New possibilities for using a space or unnecessary frills?

What do you think about dual function of using a space? Can you imagine that we mix functions of an office space and a hotel room? What would it be like, and how would it look?
We are always looking for a new opportunity and challenging ourselves when a client presented us with such a request, we embraced it with enthusiasm.
We have taken the idea of "a flexible and adaptable environment" as a core idea of space, using some tricks that make it easy to transform the space by adjusting a few interior elements. For instance, a whiteboard can disappear behind a sliding panel, or a bedroom can emerge when we open a hidden sliding door. It allows for the efficient use of limited space, ensuring that the area can serve both professional and personal purposes without feeling cramped. This solution addresses the evolving needs of modern professionals and travellers who often seek a work-life balance. Besides this we tried to keep the atmosphere of a comfortable home office or spaces hotel room with luxury facilities.

What do you think about this concept. Would you be interested in staying in such a space?

Television in the living room.
To be or not to be.

Modern manifestation is not to show the television (hide it) or not to have it at all in the living room.
Television is no longer the primary source of information or the central gathering point for the family in the living room. It has transitioned into one of entertainment items which we use sometimes in the week and more frequently on weekends for a pleasant evening.
More and more by analyzing the purpose of having a television in the room, we come to the question: Do we really need a television at all? And oft the answer is - no.
First of all, the television is not the most beautiful part of the interior. No matter how sleek and modern it may appear, it often remains just a black rectangle on your wall. And yes, I know about TVs with art display functions, but in real life it’s just a large black object in the room.
So... is there a solution to this? Yes!
There are several alternatives and one of them is to opt for a projector instead of a traditional TV. The modern market provides us with various options for beamers. And in our current project we have selected an Ultra Short throw Projector. This projector allows us to place it on a low board in front of the sofa.
The screen for the projector is integrated into the suspended ceiling above. When needed, the screen descends, allowing for seamless streaming from the projector.
In the daily routine the screen is hidden up under the ceiling and you see only the picture gallery. Which surely looks much more aesthetically pleasing than a TV.
Do you have a TV in the living room? Feel free to share your opinion!
