Flensted Mobiles

Flensted Mobiles Handmade in Denmark since 1953. Movement & Balance ♥️

Flensted Mobiles is a family business through 3 generations, creating movement and balance for you and your home. The first Flensted mobile, “The Danish Lucky Storks”, was created in 1953 by Christian and Grethe Flensted and to this day still flies to all corners of the earth. A Flensted mobile is not only designed in Denmark, it is also handmade in Denmark, on the island of Funen, where Hans Chri

stian Andersen was born. Alongside our regular assortment, we create unique large-scale installations and have developed several custom-made mobiles, mainly in cooperation with museums. With their peaceful, flowing and mesmerizing movements, our mobiles create a space for reflection and meditation.

Every Flensted mobile begins its story on the island of Funen in Denmark 🇩🇰

The rest is written in homes around the world ♥️

Sometimes, we are lucky enough to receive a little glimpse of those stories 🫶🏼

Like these beautiful photos shared by , itmk and showing where their mobile has found its place ✨

Seeing where our mobiles find their home is one of our favourite parts of what we do 💘

No two homes are ever the same, and that is exactly what makes every photo so very special to us 🥰

A mobile above a dining table. By a window. In a nursery. Or in a corner where it has become part of everyday life 🌿

Thank you so much for sharing your homes with us 🫶🏼

If you ever feel like sharing a photo of your Flensted mobile, we would absolutely love to see where it has found its place ☀️

At first glance, it is simply a sweet little hedgehog ♥️

But behind the gentle appearance lies a meaningful design.

Having lived through the Second World War as a member of the Danish resistance, peace and freedom were never abstract concepts to Christian Flensted.

When he later designed the Hedgehog Mobile, he chose the hedgehog deliberately.

Gentle by nature, yet always ready to protect what matters.

During the Cold War, the hedgehog had become an unofficial mascot associated with NATO.

Not because it attacks, but because it defends. Christian found something deeply meaningful in that symbolism.

His friend, Erling Fischer, wrote these lines about the mobile:

This mother with three successors
Would never behave as aggressors
No they would rather
Like their absent father
Close up and sting the oppressors

To us, it has always been more than a mobile.
It is a quiet symbol of peaceful strength.

Without balance, our mobiles cannot move as they are meant to 🫶🏼

Every single mobile is balanced by hand by families working from their homes across the island Funen in Denmark🌳🇩🇰 Less than a millimetre can make all the difference 🙃 It is a careful process, repeated again and again, until every mobile hangs exactly as intended by the designer. It is a way of working that has remained unchanged through three generations ♥️

Another thing is that a mobile seems to bring a sense of balance of its own. Not only in the physical sense, but a feeling of calm and harmony in the room where it lives ☀️

Maybe a little of that handmade care travels with it ✨

Today, we remember Frede Fabek; our beloved friend and mobile designer ♥️

Frede first became part of the Flensted story in 1953, when he met Christian Flensted in Aalborg. What began many years ago grew into a lifelong connection with our family and company that spanned three generations ✨

Over the years, Frede designed many beloved mobiles, including Bimmelim, The Juggler’s Apprentice, Cyclephants, The Circus Bubi and Bom mobile, The Happy Frogs, The Crane Mobile - and many many more ♥️

But Frede was much more than a mobile designer. He was also a prolific illustrator, painter and storyteller who continued creating throughout his life 🫶🏼

A few months ago, at the age of 98, Frede suffered cardiac arrest while drawing in his studio. It is difficult to imagine a life more devoted to creativity.

We are grateful for the many years and lovely moments we shared, and for the mobiles he leaves behind and the joy they continue to bring in homes around the world ♥️

Thank you so so much, Frede ♥️

Some stories feel as though they were meant to happen 🫶🏼

When Carina was a little girl, she visited Frederiksminde with her father. Walking through the old yellow school building and seeing the mobiles, she had a simple thought:

One day, I would like to create something like this ✨

Many years later, the dream she carried home from Frederiksminde found its way back again ☀️

Carina’s first collaboration with us was the Waves series. Since then, she has designed Airflow, Cherry Bird, Starry Night and Supersonic — each bringing its own sense of movement, poetry and playfulness to the collection ♥️

Working with Carina is a true pleasure 🍒 She is not only a talented designer, but also one of those people who brings joy wherever she goes 🥰

And the story is not over yet. A new design by Carina Caia is already on its way ⭐️

♥️ Warm wishes from Your Mobilemakers

Science Fiction Ellipse is back ❣️

The story began in 1955, when Christian Flensted designed Science Fiction. Inspired by the movement of planets and the vastness of space, it became one of the most iconic mobiles in our collection.

More than sixty years later, designer Johannes Lindner revisited Christian Flensted’s original design and created Science Fiction Ellipse. While the original is made from pressboard and wood, Science Fiction Ellipse reinterprets the design in aluminium and wood.

Different in character, yet connected by the same design.

We are very happy to see it return ✨

Every Flensted Mobile is handmade on the island of Funen in Denmark 🇩🇰 This is possible thanks to a collaboration between families assembling the mobiles from their homes across the island and the Flensted Team at Frederiksminde💛

Frederiksminde, the old yellow school building, has been home to Flensted Mobiles for generations ☀️

From here, materials are delivered to families, who assemble the mobiles by hand from their homes ♥️ Every second week, the finished mobiles return to Frederiksminde before continuing their journey into the world 🕊️

It is a production method that has not changed in over 70 years 🫶🏼 One that allows us to keep craftsmanship, knowledge and jobs close to where the company began ♥️

So long before a mobile reaches its new home, it has already been part of a community stretching across Funen 🇩🇰

Today took us out of the office and into a few shops.

We topped up stock, caught up with familiar faces and helped hang mobiles in a new store ☀️

It is so lovely to see our mobiles leave the workshop and become part of other people’s spaces ☺️

And that is something we never take for granted ♥️

Flowing Rhythm was designed by my grandfather, Christian Flensted, in 1955 💛

Inspired by organic shapes, movement and balance, it remains one of the most iconic mobiles in our collection.

More than 70 years later, it is still handmade by local families here on the island of Funen ♥️

This week, we opened another box from the archive 😍 What started as a quick look turned into a much longer trip down memory lane 🙃 Inside were old catalogues, photographs and mobiles we had almost forgotten about 🥹 Some designs are still with us today and others only exist in these old pages ✨ One of the things we love about being a family company is that so much of our history is still here, waiting to be rediscovered ♥️
