Taller del Telar

Taller del Telar At Taller del Telar we produce artisanal textiles. Taller del Telar is based in Ecuador. All raw materials come exclusively from Ecuador, including our alpaca.

In addition to our own brand of personal accessories, home and baby bedding products, we also weave by request for our clients. Taller del Telar began in 1985 as a community development project to provide opportunities in the Ecuadorian highlands. Sonia Vivero, anthropologist and founder, saw in Andean weaving an activity that was both socially inclusive and a powerful income generator as well as

a means to promote local identity. Our products are hand-made by Ecuadorian craftsman in rural and urban areas of the highlands. Through weaving we build identity. The Andean loom is an ancient tradition that—while it has evolved over time—remains in use today. This benefits local people, involving them in the creation of an emblematic product from our region. Over the years, Taller del Telar has involved the skilled hands of numerous men and women in Ecuador. Our weavers come from the indigenous communities of the northern highlands province of Imbabura. The finished work is done by urban women, often heads of household. At Taller del Telar we only use all-natural materials from Ecuador. We then apply hand-made processes, beginning with gathering, spinning, and dying the threads, to weaving and finishing the products. Using these fibers and techniques a wide array of textiles can be produced in a variety of patterns, colors and textures. We have experience with a wide array of fibers and can weave a variety of intricate textiles for designers and artists.
