Artizan Ecuador Working alongside people with physical disabilities in Santo Domingo, Ecuador

Lydia and Mark have moved to Ecuador to set up a craft based social enterprise in Santo Domingo de los Colorados. Mark & Lydia met at Middlesex University where Lydia was studying for a BA in Jewellery & Accesories and Mark for a BA in Jazz, they got married in June 2014. During her degree Lydia volunteered at Neema Craft Centre in Tanzania and this ignited her passion to use jewellery as a tool f

or social justice. As a couple they have a strong desire to use their lives for the betterment of others and are open to going wherever God calls them.

At the project Lydia will take care of design, training and manufacturing, and Mark will take care of admin, social media and of course making a good cup of Yorkshire tea.

Our Story

2 years on Lydia and Mark have trained 8 people who now earn a garenteed wage through producing people cards and different jewellery designs.

In April 2019 Jessica and Andy Lynch, together with their daughter Francesca, took over the running and developing of this project. In September 2019 another 6 people have been trained through Artizan Ecuador and will have their graduation ceremony at the end of October.

Next steps..... Spreading the word and presenting the work of Artizan Ecuador is vital at this point. Potential outlets and buyers of our our products is key to moving forward.

In January we will welcome more differently abled adults to attend our training course. We also plan to develop the project and land to include a cafe, volunteer huts and bn’b rooms, and run papermaking workshops.
