Antique 19th century huge jardinière / centerpiece in cobalt blue sèvres porcelain with a hand-painted floral decor with gilded bronze frame and base.

The surface is extensively decorated with intricate gold tracery. This includes delicate floral sprays, scrolling foliage, and finely detailed, lace-like geometric borders and a standout feature of the decoration is the “jeweled” effect. Small, raised enamel dots in opaque white and light turquoise blue are meticulously applied throughout the gold patterns to simulate tiny gemstones, forming flower petals and beaded borders.

The Handles and Base: Flanking the bowl are two prominent, asymmetrical scrolling handles. These handles are heavily detailed with acanthus leaf motifs and feature what appear to be stylized mythical creatures or dragons near where they attach to the rim, this base is supported by three highly articulated, bronze scrolled feet, at the top of each leg, there is a distinct mascaron—a decorative, classical face or mask cast directly into the bronze.

An ode to rural life and the shepherd’s profession, between idealism and serenity.

Made in the early 20th century during the Art Deco period (1920-1939), this brown-patina regule and biscuit porcelain sculpture is a work by the artist Mednat, signed on the side of the base.

Mednat, a French sculptor born in 1890 and died in 1940, is known for his subjects imitating chryselephantine, with a patina ranging from gold to bronze and an ivory-colored complexion, which give great realism to his works.

Dating back to the Art Deco period, this shepherdess doesn’t reflect a “pure” idea of ​​Art Deco, although naturalist themes (the goat, pastoral life) and geometric elements (the square base, the shepherdess’s drapery, her tambourine) are present. It is, above all, a transitional poem from 19th-century neoclassicism to the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements of the early 20th century.
