HAKAWI FUWWAH

Contemporary design rooted in memory and heritage.

Inspired by the memories of weaver Rania El Saidi and the visual identity of Fuwwah, this project translates the city’s trees, minarets, geometric patterns, the Nile, and distinctive Islamic brick architecture into three Art Deco-inspired woven compositions, each exploring a different weaving technique.

Developed through visits to Fuwwah in collaboration with the BUE team, the project became a meaningful journey of cultural discovery, community engagement, and appreciation for the artisans preserving traditional craftsmanship.

Every design begins with a story, a place, and a collection of details waiting to be discovered.

The first sketches of Hakawi Fuwwah were an exploration of the city’s architectural language, its geometric patterns, nature, and the memories woven into its everyday life.

Little by little, these elements came together to shape three compositions, translating Fuwwah’s heritage into a contemporary design inspired by Art Deco.

From the first lines on paper to the final woven panels, every detail carries a piece of Fuwwah’s story.

We’re delighted to be part of “WOVEN. craft. design. heritage.”, an exhibition celebrating the rich weaving heritage of Fuwah and the dialogue between traditional craft and contemporary design.

For Noha, this collaboration is especially meaningful. She believes in preserving Egypt’s cultural heritage by giving traditional craftsmanship a place in contemporary design.

As part of the Co-Weave Fuwah Lab, designers and skilled weavers from Fuwah came together to explore new possibilities for kilim weaving, transforming centuries-old craft into contemporary objects, furniture and installations.

We’re proud to contribute to this beautiful journey of craft, collaboration and cultural heritage.

And here, the story comes full circle.✨✨✨

What began thousands of years ago as an expression of beauty, craftsmanship, and devotion continues to inspire us today.

Our first Tawla from Les Trésors du Nil is Naïa’s interpretation of that legacy, bringing together natural oak, pure mother-of-pearl, brass, ebony and walnut, and the patient hands of Egyptian artisans.

We created it with one belief at heart:

Egyptian heritage should not only be remembered.
It should be lived, touched, shared, and carried forward.

This is our first treasure.

This is where our story becomes a pattern✨✨

The treasures of Tutankhamun were created from the most precious gifts of nature: gold, precious stones, and fine natural materials, brought together by the extraordinary hands of ancient Egyptian craftsmen.

Thousands of years later, their mastery continues to inspire us.

For this Tawla, Naïa translates that spirit through natural oak wood, pure mother-of-pearl, natural brass, ebony and walnut.

Piece by piece, the pattern comes to life under the artisan’s hand.

Look closer… this is where the story lives✨✨

At Naïa, we believe that beauty is not always found in what first catches the eye. Sometimes, it reveals itself slowly, in a curve, a reflection, a tiny piece carefully placed by hand.

For this Tawla, pure mother-of-pearl, natural brass, ebony and walnut come together within natural oak, creating a pattern inspired by the treasures of Tutankhamun.

Every piece is placed with patience.
Every detail is intentional.
Every reflection tells a little more of the story.
