Hi everyone! Since I mainly use my SmartBench to teach CNC courses and travel around quite a bit, the original table layout was just too long and bulky to fit comfortably in my car week after week.
Before jumping into this project, I actually contacted Trend (the current SmartBench distributor) to buy a replacement workspace/table to modify. However, they gave me a delivery lead time of nearly a year! 🤯 Faced with that massive delay, I was practically forced to find my own solution and start designing.
To solve this transport headache and maximize portability, I designed and built a new, smaller custom table utilizing 3D-printed parts for the structural couplers and frame extensions.
As you can see in the pictures, it is now the perfect compact size for effortless boot/trunk transport. It reduces the working area to a much more manageable footprint for quick classroom demos and training sessions, while keeping the machine perfectly stable and just as quick to assemble!
What do you think of this hack? Anyone else struggling with car space—or distributor lead times—when moving this beast around? Let me know!
