Located on the top floor of a modernist building in the Born district of Barcelona, the apartment was affected by an explosion months before, so the initial brief provided an economic project with the aim of preserving and rescuing the historical elements present.
The central area was treated as a color block. This brick-like core orders the space around it and incorporates several functions: kitchen, dining room and study.

Interestingly, the family name is reminiscent of Clinker blocks: clay bricks that are exposed to excessive heat during the firing process, resulting in a shiny surface.
To create this distinctive area, the entire space was submerged in terracotta, including the corner area that will be used as a quiet study area. The entire area of the false ceiling above the kitchen was also significantly lowered, thus hiding the beam and the air conditioning ducts. The microcement flooring in the same tone covers three different types of tiles, unifying the block and highlighting the most valuable floors: those in the entrance and in the living room. The same earth tone is present on the microcement backsplash wall, the false ceiling, the kitchen cabinets (including the central island with rounded edges) and in the study, desk and shelves. The result is a space in a single color-block that distinctively marks the center of the apartment.

The study area nestles into a recessed space off the kitchen, with a bespoke desk and circularly cut shelves that allow a small globe pendant light to hang above them, and in the same colour. A porthole window pierces one wall, letting natural light into the space.

The original ceilings have also been painted in colours: a muted burgundy for the living room and a dark teal for the bedrooms. In addition, the modernist motifs in the corners have been restored. In the living room, one of the corner moldings had to be replaced, damaged by the fire, after making a new mold of the original molding.

Bedrooms are simple and clean. The strip of color in the master bedroom becomes a volume, forming the headboard that incorporates globes of light and a niche on the side. The bedroom has access to a small dressing room that is part of the brick-colored block.

The children's room has a built-in wardrobe that follows the colors of the walls. All fixed furniture is bespoke. The kitchen, bathroom, hallway and bedroom cabinets have custom-made door handles, lacquered in colors to match their surfaces.
All wall paints are chosen from producer Benjamin Moore's shades.
A large painting by Piero Serboli and a sofa by Kettal dominate the living area with their warm colors.

Located in a 1970s building in the heart of Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona, the property was originally an office floor. The brief, in addition to the change of use, requested that the 200m2 space house the vacation home of a very large family: four bedrooms and four bathrooms (possibly en-suite), one big living space and take advantage of the great terrace.

One of the key points of the project was the entrance just at the beginning of the apartment, while the desirable space for the living area (with the greatest views on Paseo de Gracia) at the other one.
The property only has windows on one side, being the other side the boundary wall with the next building. The corridor and living mirrors have been designed to fool the eyes and open up spaces and windows on the boundary side too.

The entrance is raised, and three steps down you find the hallway, where a wide glazed door opens to enter the great terrace. The double-height of the entrance wall can be overcome by stepping on the concrete step. A big sliding door with leads to the “bedrooms box”.

To avoid having to pass through the bedrooms area to reach the living area, a closed box was created for the private night area and a second day area circulation by opening a doorway to the terrace that leads directly to the living space. Different heights were used to emphasize the feeling of a box below the beams and bring natural light into the corridor. Four bedrooms are aligned between the corridor and the terrace. All bedrooms have closets hidden behind mirrors that multiply the low ceiling entrance and hidden curtain rails on the whole glazed wall with indirect line of lights.
A large 90 sqm living space opens behind the wide pivoting door.

Storage units and library cover almost completely the boundary wall. This capacious custom-made furniture has 90cm wide sliding doors, some covered in mirror with a golden tone. The mirrors “open” windows and unexpected views, providing the space with sights all around and new perspectives on the city.

The terrace embraces the entire apartment while it curves around the building. Every bedroom can be opened completely, and the existing sloping volumes of the facade create more private spaces in front of each room.

The outdoor space has been widened in front of the living area, creating a glass box next to the kitchen and in front of the living room that opens completely.

The apartment is located in a quiet green passage near Barcelona's Sagrada Familia temple, in a 1914 Art Nouveau building. The property was bought in a state of neglect and, although it presented some period elements, most of them were irreversibly compromised.

The brief called for transforming the house into a “Wunderkammer”: a quiet retreat full of emotionally charged objects, with at least one guest room besides the main one.

With this goal, the space was completely emptied, and a lacquered box was installed in a very Mediterranean vibrant shade of blue. The three faces of this blue parallelepiped define the entire space, using each of them for a function linked to the environment in which they are directly projected: the wardrobes in the master bedroom; the dressing room at the entrance and the kitchen modules.

Inside the box hides the bathroom area, imagined as a somewhat secret relaxation space, a tribute to some oriental bathrooms, revisited with modern tones. Its walls are entirely covered in a dusty pink microcement and the large shower/bath area has an indirect light source through a round window with fluted glass, which looks directly onto the living area.

The kitchen, open onto a completely diaphanous living room, respects the client’s desire for an extrovert kitchen, where he can receive and cook with friends. With the same intention, a large bay window on the facade opens the living room completely to the terrace, transforming it into an extension of the living room and blurring the line between inside and outside.

The two bedrooms adjacent to the entrance still had original details in good condition (floors and doors above all) and are the only reminiscence of the initial arrangement.

Except for the interior of the blue box, the false ceilings have been eliminated throughout the apartment, with the intention of evidencing the severe and stark nature of the larger white container, in contrast with the sophistication and more careful details of the smallest blue one.

In the living area, a large painting by Piero Serboli recalls the Mediterranean colours of the apartment. Different art pieces and design furniture that the customer collects inhabit every corner of the house. The wall in front of the living room table is illuminated by a Fold Lamp, designed by the studio.

For the commission of this project, in a 13th century building in the Born district of Barcelona, the old property was completely transformed into a vibrant new apartment, home to a professional Italian woman fashionista.

Original layout (highly compartmented) was completely reversed, thus recovering the large proportions of the old spaces, with 4 m vaulted ceilings. high, large windows and thick walls. All the previous partitions were demolished, leaving only a thick structural wall around the new bedroom.

The project is developed as a sequence of three volumes, different in color and textures, which emphasize the space and resolve the limitations given by the thick structural walls.

The blue volume, in lacquered wood, is made up of a full-height wardrobe system that covers the structural walls of the bedroom and expands in the entrance area. These closets hide a second, more private access to the bedroom and respond to the precise request of the client to exaggerate with the storage space. In this way we also generate a hierarchy between the environments, clearly separating the entrance area from the living room, and marking a small study area.
A second volume is shaped like an arch in a coral color that dominates the kitchen space and hides a small bathroom/laundry. This volume gives character to the space and its shape highlights its imposing height, which measures more than 4 meters.

Between the two previous volumes, there is a third intermediate one, whose white surface is treated with a rough paint. This volume contains the bedroom and houses a slender and monumental pink door, which, once opened, creates continuity between the day and night areas, thus providing new proportions to the space.
Between the two big windows, the golden disc of a Fold Lamp is presiding the dining area, expressly designed for this project.

A made-to-measure lacquered table, a large and square sofa by Hay and some Kettal furnitures recall the colors of the three volumes in pure and somewhat spartan geometric shapes.

ST. ANTONI I Apartment

The aim of this apartment, located in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, was to create a very masculine and sophisticated home, using a neutral palette and focusing on different textures.

By the entrance, a tube system creates a double bicycle rack. Behind, some grey tiles protect the wall. This 60x60 cm porcelain tile continues in the kitchen fading to a 30x30 cm format, which then becomes smaller in the bathroom until it reaches a 10x10 cm format in the shower area. In this way, the sensation of a single block that houses this side of the project and that brings together the most “technical” spaces of the apartment is transmitted.

A wide band of rough surface at the top of the wall surrounding the living area unifies and gives character to the space, while concealing lines of diffused LED lights above the teal velvet drapes and along the length of the wall opposite the kitchen, also disguising the reinforcements.

The small terrace (previously closed and transformed into bathroom and laundry spaces) was reformed again by opening one of the two windows, the space before the washing machine was converted into a built-in terrace and the balcony was recovered, bringing much more light to the living room.
On the side of the terrace, a square window was opened towards the bathroom that now gives direct natural light from behind the mirror. Two twin black tube structures, one on each side of the wall, allow plants to climb around the square opening to the outside, while on the bathroom side the mirror is suspended.
The bathroom (previously a closed kitchen) also features a bespoke freestanding shower glass bulkhead and matching black faucets.
The kitchen is now open to the living space, raised on a step like the bathroom area, with black cabinets. The kitchen fan is hidden in the fall of the false ceiling. A small shelf lined with gray tiles hides an additional light.

Access to the master and guest bedrooms is through two original double doors with moldings that have been kept in place and restored.

The collection of works of art and furniture designed by the client -among which a Costura sofa by STUA and a Cesta armchair by Kettal stand out- punctuate the space with touches of colour or textures that sometimes contrast or others, on the contrary, refer to architectural aspects of the intervention.

This small apartment is located on the top floor of an Art Nouveau building in the Sant Antoni district of Barcelona.

The brief was to rethink the apartment, providing greater breadth and orderly spaces, to a small and irregularly shaped property.
For the new layout it was preferred to study and exploit the many diagonals implied by the property (instead of trying to deny them), cutting the portions at an angle to amplify the sensation of amplitude.

A rough volume, with a sage-coloured hollowed passageway, becomes a filter between the entrance and the private sleeping area and hides the access to the bathroom and a wardrobe area.
A textured, rough, ivory-colored paste covers the exterior of the volume of the bathroom and wardrobe, helping to delicately define these two blocks. The same cladding - which also performs the function of thermal and acoustic insulation - covers all the Catalan vaults, keeping out heat and noise, softening the light and covering some custom-made furniture.

The bedroom is entered through double doors, lacquered the same sage color on one side, but textured like the wall on the other. Once inside the bathroom, the walls are covered with vertical tiles of the same green but in a finish bright, thus generating a contrast of textures between the interior and exterior of the volume. A large polyhedral shower is configured as a glass prism that lets light into the entire bathroom.

The linear development of the kitchen has been constrained by the long and narrow space, but the bespoke units contrasted with the kitchen furniture complement the need for storage. Once the edge of the perimeter wall has been passed, the same low piece of furniture transforms into a bench that serves as a seat for the table and re-proposes the previous functions of a container piece of furniture.

The dining area is defined by the niche, painted in soft pink, illuminated by a hidden LED line above it.
The original brick wall behind the sitting room was first recovered and then mitigated with a whitish painting. A line of indirect LED lights runs above the exterior wall.
The entire day area comes to life thanks to a selection of Kettal furniture, chosen based on their textures and a color palette that reaffirms the neutrality of the tones of the floor.

The property occupies an art nouveau building of the Eixample district of Barcelona and was fully renovated to become the holiday apartment for an Italian family.
The original layout wasted considerable space and was poorly orientated. Its longitudinal distribution, forced by the transversal bearing walls, resulted in many densely separated small spaces, along a deep corridor that isolated the two ends of the apartment.
The desire to bring light to the innermost part of the apartment was the driving force behind a complete renovation of the existing spaces. The three load-bearing walls became transversal axes around which to organize three different zones.
The first of these axes corresponds to the entrance area, where the continuous space between the living room and the open kitchen (previously a bedroom) incorporates part of the old corridor and allows light to flood it, entering from the balconies that overlook the tree-lined street
The second axis constitutes the block of the two smaller bedrooms. This light pink volume separates the day area from the innermost area, which is made up of the third block: the suite and the main bathroom.
This third and main bedroom (formerly, kitchen and study) forms an open space of almost 20m², which includes its own bathroom, separated by a gap. This solution makes it possible to make the most of the light coming from the large original window that occupies almost the entire rear façade.

The client's desire to recover the essence of art Nouveau led the project to restore original elements by adding new components that could support the same language without betraying its own contemporary nature. For this, some of the original elements were rescued, such as the original carpentry of the windows and the Catalan vaults.
For the same reason, the “hydraulic” floors (a typical element of this type of housing from the beginning of the 20th century) were reinterpreted, expressly designing a new tile, using a hexagonal format but with contemporary colors.
The palette of materials and colors creates an always different dialogue, marked by the two volumes that define the project: one in pink paint and the other covered in wood.
A Mediterranean-inspired vibe dominates the entire floor plan, with a color scheme suggested in part by original elements - such as the amaranth-coloured wooden window frames on the façade - and dominated by white and pastel tones.Large paintings by Piero Serboli dominate the living space and the suite, offering a Mediterranean and colourful imagery.
