I have lived in Barcelona for 19 years after spending 18 years in Los Angeles where I worked as a stylist. When I arrived in Spain, the real estate business was undergoing a huge "boom" and very quickly people were doing major remodeling in their newly acquired apartments. Part of the remodeling consisted (and still does) in removing any design characteristic that could remind them of the past...

Walking through the streets of Barcelona, how could I not see the containers of debris filled with these great Modernista floors. I was amazed that anyone could through these beauties away, then sad, mad which is probably what prompted me to act. I decided to start collecting these tiles that piled up seriously and quickly in our apartment. The idea was clear, I was not just going to pile them up but rather give them a second life by making tables, consoles, frames, trivets, etc... Then Mesa Bonita was born : www.mesabonita.es

In the 20 years of I have seen hundreds of people and have encountered many funny / odd situations.
Friday morning, I got a phone call at 9am from L. who was asking if she could come soon to the studio. She and T. arrived an hour later with an empty bag.
They picked a few tiles that got wrapped up carefully in their bag. They then informed me that they were going straight to the airport where they had just come from.
They were on a layover flight, in Barcelona just for a few hours and the only thing they wanted to do was to come and shop for tiles.
I barely had the time to wrap their tiles, they had to leave to the airport. That would be called a
Safe journey back home dear L. & T.

About to finish these 2 .
I still have a couple of them in the making but they somehow are structurally more complicated to make therefore more time consuming.
I must give credit to my suppliers since pretty much every order is different in sizes and at times designs, therefore concentration, skill and thinking ahead is a plus.

Many of you over the years have asked me to “save” a particular set of tiles, assuring me that one day you will want a table or decorative piece made with them.
It has been the case of L., who wanted the grey design set in a table.
Knowing that wouldn’t be around for much longer, he finally came to terms with ordering the dreamed table that was just delivered a few days ago to his home.
I hope you enjoy your table dear L. and thank you so much for your support all these years.

M. came to see me because he had purchased that really cool loft but felt it was lacking something important: a soul.
In order to give it more character, he chose these tiles to dress his staircases. As the project grew bigger and he was in love with these I had to use these half tiles to complete the order.
Now comes the time to lay the tiles. Very much looking forward to seeing them installed.
