The image shows Andy Warhol’s famous 1967 series of Marilyn Monroe silkscreen prints. This work is one of the most iconic examples of Pop Art.
Above the portraits appears the actress’s famous quote: “What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.”

Warhol used silkscreen printing to reproduce a publicity still for the film Niagara (1953), allowing him to create infinite color variations.
Through the use of saturated and unnatural colors, the artist explores the concept of celebrity as a “consumer product,” transforming Marilyn’s face into a two-dimensional icon.

The original series included 10 silkscreen prints on paper (each approximately 91 x 91 cm), all featuring different color combinations.

Complete sets of this series are held in major museums around the world, including the MoMA in New York and the Tate Modern in London.
