The more tightly woven piles are inherently stronger than their loosely woven counterparts, resulting in a more durable sofa. The nap -- direction of the pile -- should run toward the front of a chenille sofa's seat cushions and downward on the back cushions to align with your body when you get up or sit down. If the nap is running in the right direction, the chenille upholstery will wear better and last longer on your sofa.

Clean Like You Mean It
You can lengthen the life of your chenille sofa by taking proper care of the upholstery. Vacuum your couch periodically to prevent dust and debris from building up between the raised woven fibers. Use a soft brush to lightly brush the nap to keep it feeling soft and looking good. Avoid using water on chenille, as it tends to flatten the plush pile.
