The Sulawesi Pillars.

Their simplicity brings me a sense of calm. Every time I look at them, they seem to whisper, "Slow down."

Where others saw an old house ready to be discarded, I saw beauty waiting to be rediscovered. Perhaps that's why they have become such wonderful conversation pieces.

These pillars began their journey as part of a traditional Toraja house in Sulawesi, Indonesia. When we acquired the house, we were fortunate to preserve many of its original architectural elements and give them a new purpose.

Back in our workshop, each pillar was hand-chiselled to create a more sculptural texture before being finished using the traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique. Watching the flame transform the timber, followed by steel brushing, careful sanding, and a final finish using our own blend of beeswax, tung oil, and coconut oil, is one of my favourite parts of the process. The aged brass pull rings, once used on a traditional cattle farm, complete the piece.

The first set has found its home in a tranquil spa. Another is now on its way to welcome guests at the entrance of a beautiful finca in Mallorca. Every destination becomes part of its journey.
