Back home in Valencia. The trip back was relatively easy. We actually were able to get on an earlier train home and made it back 3 hours earlier than expected. It was nice to be welcomed back home by our dog.

It was also nice to go to the grocery store and stock up on fresh veggies and fruit. Vacation is always a time of indulgence and so it’s nice to get back to a regular routine.

Also I am looking forward to some quiet time to reflect upon our trip.

We ended our trip the way that we started our trip…with donuts. Still haven’t slept since Monday evening and it’s 8:24 a.m. in Spain. We luckily got on an earlier train and therefore are ahead of schedule by 3 hours. Cannot wait to be back home. A nap is definitely in order.

We head back to Valencia today. It doesn’t seem like much, but here are 2 things I’m going to miss…

The first is the water. In Valencia we have hard water. Calcium builds up in everything. It’s wild. It does a number on your hair and skin. I’ve gotten used to it and also, I love leaving town and washing my hair elsewhere.

But above and beyond these things, I will miss my friends the most. Getting hugs and letting people know what they mean to me in person has been the highlight of this trip. Even if I didn’t get to see everyone, many people reached out in one way or another. Every message was special. My heart is full! ❤️

And boy am I going to miss the size of the washer and dryers in the US. Laundry takes a lot less time. I mean, only one load and I can do all of clothes!

I did notice however that I have become accustomed to air drying most of our clothes and found myself doing that here. Some habits are hard to break.

Another day spent with family and friends. We got to hang out with our 2 favorite 5 year olds. The last time we saw them they were babies and now they are small, sweet and smart little people.

We ended the day delivering a few books to friends, getting hugs and strolling a bit through Old Salem at sunset. It was definitely a great day.

The sunset last night was beautiful!!!!! And the best part, I got to witness it with my brother from another mother, Justin. As an only child, friendships mean everything to me. And those friendships that span decades are golden. He and I have been friends since high school, so we are talking 3 decades now! So grateful he drove from Raleigh to spend the evening with us.

Yesterday we had a full day of seeing people and squeezing in some more shopping.

We got to hit up Costco and Walmart. This photo was taken at Walmart. We don’t have Cheez-It in Spain, much less all these varieties, wow!

We also got to see some near and dear to us friends. And I ran into our mailman/neighbor/friend when we were downtown. Cause, Winston.

Michelle | Watercolor & Mixed Media Artist in NC has a lovely group of artist friends with whom she gets together on the regular to make art with from all over NC. Yesterday they came to Winston to spend time around a table talking and creating and I finally got to meet them in real life! How lucky am I?!

Even though I was feeling a bit out of sorts, the opportunity to be in community and to be creating was just what I needed midweek.

Thank you Jana Clinard Harris Rebecca DeGroodt Martha Christopher Berry Hayter for traveling to come see us!

And it was wonderful to reconnect with Cat Redmond after so many years!

Yesterday we spent quality time with family and it was as if no time had passed. In the evening we had a drop in get together at a locally brewery and so many friends came out to spend time with us. It was truly exceptional and wonderful to see everyone.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to get even a few moments with folks, to be able to give them a big hug and to be able to tell them what they mean to me.

I even managed to squeeze in time to run to the antique mall to pick up some more Smurf glasses. 😂
