Reflections of the Tramuntana

Each season brings its own palette, shaped by the plants, the water and the sun of the Son Moragues Estate. Every piece is designed and produced entirely in our textile workshop, which means no two are ever the same.

We dye our textiles by hand, in small batches, following traditional methods. Colour shifts naturally from one dye bath to another and from season to season, creating subtle variations within each piece.

These are not imperfections, but part of a living process that gives every textile its own character.

A la finca de Son Moragues, les ovelles formen part del territori des de sempre. Les nostres ovelles són totes de raça mallorquina i formem part de l’Associació Ramaders Ovella Mallorquina ().

Guardians dels nostres olivars i part essencial de la regeneració de la flora i la fauna de la finca.

En la finca de Son Moragues, las ovejas forman parte del territorio desde siempre. Nuestra ovejas son todas de raza mallorquina y formamos parte de la Associació Ramaders Ovella Mallorquina ().

En SONMO cultivamos variedades locales de tomate en el huerto de la Finca Son Moragues.

A principios de mayo plantamos las tomateras en la tierra, siguiendo el método tradicional: colocamos cañas para guiar su crecimiento y realizamos una limpieza manual de los tallos, favoreciendo así frutos de mayor tamaño y calidad, en un suelo que ha acogido estas variedades durante generaciones.

The SONMO Dialogues is a monthly series of cultural talks exploring Mallorca’s living heritage through craftsmanship, culture, and regenerative practices. A space where artisans and other voices come together, bringing closer together the city of Palma and the Serra de Tramuntana.

Recent participants include Daniel Harris, weaver, textile artisan, and founder of The London Cloth Company (). In his talk, he shared his experience of bringing ancient Mallorcan looms back to life at SONMO.

In 2023, Daniel and the SONMO team rescued, relocated, and restored the looms from a 120 year old weaving mill in Establiments, Mallorca, where they had been dormant for over 45 years. Today, after more than two years of work, it is the only wool weaving mill in the Balearic Islands, in an effort to relaunch Mallorca’s once lost wool industry.

As Daniel said: “We’re not trying to save the past. We’re trying to prove it still has a future.”
