Koska on turistien aika, jouduin miettimään englanninkielisiä termejä esitellessäni "Hyltätystä Hyväksi" -näyttelyn ideaani.
Päätin, että teen esittelytekstin englanniksi. Koska kielitaitoni ei tähän riitä, pyysin Googlea ystävällisesti kääntämään kirjoittamani tekstin. Tyttäreni vielä oikoluki ja hyväksyi käännöksen.
Näin se menee:
“Rejected for Good” – used textiles – exhibition
I am a regular customer of the recycling center and flea markets. I make theater costumes and often find costumes in the recycling center’s free collection or at the flea market for a few euros. At some point last winter, I got excited about repurposing clothes for myself. As I browsed Pinterest, my enthusiasm only grew. I used ties to make men’s suit jackets fit me. Adding lace and ribbons created a more feminine version. Hunger grows when I eat, and so I started to see new possibilities at the discarded jeans collection. I cut the legs into pieces, assembled a dress and skirt and a vest and a bag from them. Bags. Someone’s discarded bedspread started to look like a coat. A large piece became another coat and bag. Sheets that were no longer used became linings. A lace tablecloth was transformed into a party blouse, a gorgeous embroidered tablecloth with coffee stains into a dress. If washing, stain removal and bleach don't help, you just have to dodge the stains and holes.
IDEA FOR AN EXHIBITION When the number of outfits started to exceed my own needs, I had the idea that I should make them available for others to see. The cultural grant I applied for from the city was partially approved, and with that, I was able to start asking around about renting a space. The empty space at Koulukatu 5 in the middle of the city appealed to me and a lease was signed for June.
I want to present - recycling - ideas and inspiration - ordinary outfits that even an ordinary home seamstress can make I didn't want to make "art", but ordinary everyday clothes. Relatively easy to make. Of course, after spending time brainstorming, planning and sewing, I also wanted to put a price on the products. Since the materials have been free, the prices are as reasonable as possible.
LEARNING NEWLY I have spent countless evenings and days off enthusiastically creating. I am a tailor by training, but life is a continuous learning process and in this project I have studied and learned a lot. Small details and different ways of implementing. A hugely wonderful project! I hope that visitors or those peeking through the window could get something similar for themselves. Enthusiasm, sensible choices instead of disposable clothes and perhaps a unique outfit for themselves that still has a useful life left. I have chosen sustainable materials and done the sewing work with care.
