What is a half saree ?

The traditional half saree holds a special place in South Indian culture.
Historically, it marked a young girl’s transition into adulthood. Before puberty, girls often wore a simple skirt and blouse, known as a Pattu Pavadai. After puberty and before marriage, they traditionally began wearing the half saree, symbolizing maturity and the beginning of a new stage in life.

Unlike the traditional six-yard saree, which is draped from a single continuous piece of fabric, the half saree is a three-piece outfit consisting of a skirt, blouse, and dupatta.
