I regularly see posts where people are offering to give away stone from collapsed walls or old buildings on their land. This post is just to give you an idea of a way of using those stones to your advantage.
This sloping garden suffered a retaining wall collapse at the rear and after it was repaired, all this stone was left behind. The owner asked for my help to put his plan into action. We created a dry stone wall part way up his garden, which we will soon backfill with earth to create a flat area for seating in his garden, which he currently doesn't have. This is a great way to use up what was just a pile of stones that were otherwise in the way. Within the pile we found some millstones which we placed as steps and then used wooden posts to finish the steps as a woodland style pathway. The owner is absolutely chuffed that he didn't have to lug all those stones down the hill to get rid!!
