My father died four weeks ago today. He had been diagnosed a few months earlier and refused to undergo treatment he had experienced 20 years earlier. He was pragmatic, old school, strong headed (very) and always considered he had lead a good life.
He never relinquished in the past and wanted us to keep on living our lives whatever happened.

He loved art and nature and was sensible to the beauty of our world. Antique or foreign civilisations, the creations of humans through the history of mankind, fossils, Giacometti’s walking man or impressionist paintings were all worthy of his attention.

From an early age, my siblings and I were taken to visit museums, historic and natural landmarks, or oddities both in France and abroad. He was curious, eager to learn, questioned things, kept himself well informed about the state of the world, and led a life where experiences and knowledge were more valuable than belongings.

He is missed but his legacy and the memories do live on.
