Éric Astoul — Large Stoneware Vessel, La Borne, France 🇫🇷 2003

Large ovoid stoneware vessel, created in a high-temperature wood-fired kiln by French ceramic artist Éric Astoul (b. 1945).

A unique sculptural piece featuring a richly textured surface of fine horizontal incisions and scarification, inspired by an Africanist visual vocabulary. The intense firing has produced a deep, earthy palette ranging from terracotta to charcoal brown, emphasizing the raw and powerful character of the clay.

1980s Granite & Chrome Table

Striking 1980s rectangular table with a richly textured granite top and sculptural chrome-plated “Mikado” base.

The sculptural chrome-plated “Mikado” base gives the piece a strong graphic character, balancing the substantial stone top with an elegant, almost architectural structure.

A distinctive vintage piece with a bold yet timeless presence.

Raw, elegant, and full of character.

Falling for this small 1940s French solid oak sideboard (credenza). With its beautifully carved flat « pointes de diamant » (diamond-point) door panels and those sturdy, curved modernist legs, it strikes the perfect balance between brutalist strength and warm, timeless design.

Its compact proportions make it an easy fit to warm up an entryway, hallway, or living room without overcrowding the space

✨ 1940s French Modernism ✨

Spotlight on this exceptional pair of corner shelves (encoignures) in solid oak.
True testaments to French modernist design from the 1940s, these pieces stand out with their clean architectural lines and rigorous geometry. A clever play on asymmetrical volumes beautifully highlights the nobility and rich, textured grain of the solid oak.

Minimalist, highly functional, and sculptural all at once, they perfectly embody the elegance and avant-garde spirit of this pivotal decade in French furniture history.

A strong design statement to bring character to any interior.

Roland Zobel, French ceramic artist, created this striking wall panel at his Les Cyclades workshop in Anduze during the 1980s.

Combining glazed terracotta with richly grained wood, the composition depicts a stylized marine world brought to life through vibrant glazes and sculptural textures.
