Spent the afternoon at the bike slopes in the forest at Montbrun Bocage. Granny, there and not there. Trying not to react to the screech of brakes and the sudden jolt of flying limbs!
Soaking in the gifts from the silent, patient, shimmering trees. Their multitude of facades reflecting and absorbing the face of the sun.
Wishing the whole world could share in their peace.

Indigo vats on the move. We are moving in July . So I'm drying out the sediment on the bottom of my indigo vats, to make the voyage less sloppy ! From l to r:- Iron bio vat, date bio vat and woad bio vat. The last is surprisingly the bluest.
I'll work out how to resuscitate them once we're settled. Any ideas or experiences?

A little something in the pipeline. Peach leaves, Abelmoschus manihot leaf, commonly known as aibika and chestnut tannin. And lots of iron for Michaelmas .

This photo has been doctored . I moved a leaf gently to one side so the sun would lend it's golden glow to these courgette flowers. Then I let the leaf swing back to protect them from the fierce June heat. These are two female flowers, the courgettes are already 2 to 3;inches long behind them. Their leaves 'know' how to protect them from harm . They only opened this morning and tonight they will close up for ever. Tomorrow or the day after they will drop to the ground to give their nutrients to the soil

These are 2 of the first flowers this year, very late but still giving an inkling of summer and autumn gluts. A summer feast of sautéd courgette with ginger and soya sauce . I have waited patiently but not much longer.
Do you have any courgette stories?

Colourful fungi moments in hedgerow. Purple fungi is less than 2 cm tall, but apparently it does grow bigger and although the colour kind of warns caution it is in fact edible, Amethyst Deceiver.

The red fungi is even smaller, the Scarlet Elfcup is kind of edible but apparently not worth risking.
it. You can see here the white stem from which it has opened.

Both are busy turning old dead wood into living compost. Beautiful welcome helpers in the potager.
