A beautiful Rocaille décor silver plated coffee pot by Victor Saglier of France, c. 1890s. Having an antique French silver coffee pot in such beautiful patina condition is a wonderful thing. The richly embossed Rocaille silver décor continues along the body, spout and handle of this lovely coffee pot produced by Victor in Paris, circa . It's graceful scroll shaped spout flares into the silver. As a specialty of French silversmithing, the smith would blowtorch a motif onto a piece of metal and solidify it with hand hammering to form a decorative surface. Then molten metal was poured into the mold thus casting a 2-dimensional design onto the piece it adorns which resulted in your standard decorative Rocaille design found on many pieces throughout Europe and America in those early days. This rocaille décor is seen often on tools, sets and furniture accents most frequently during much of Louis Philippe's last.
