Our Boulevard Saint-Germain project, a Parisian pied-à-terre in the 7th arrondissement, was a wonderful opportunity to bring together timeless Parisian character, understated elegance, and the thoughtful details that make a residence feel deeply personal.

There is a language to Les Puces.

Not simply French words, but the terms that tell you whether a piece is truly from the period, later in the style, restored, attributed, signed or stamped — and understanding those distinctions can completely change the way you look at French antiques.

After years of sourcing furniture and decorative arts at Les Puces de Saint-Ouen for my interior design projects in Paris, I wanted to share some of the words I hear and use most often, along with a few of the questions I am asked about visiting and buying there.

Sunday thoughts: I have always loved interiors that reveal themselves slowly.

A beautiful mix of periods, soft morning light, crisp linen, and a vintage brass and opaline light set against classical Parisian architecture. Each element has its own presence, but together they create something quieter and more atmospheric.

How you feel in a room comes from that combination — from pieces carefully chosen and layered so the final result feels effortless, even when a great deal of thought has gone into it.

This is the kind of layered interior design I love creating in Paris: rooms where architecture, vintage pieces, lighting, texture and proportion come together naturally.

You’re right. I should have vetted the five more carefully before calling them the best.

It is usually a collection of small decisions — the shape of a mirror, the movement of a stone, the patina of brass, a shell sconce, a classical detail placed where you do not quite expect it.

In Paris, finding space is an art.

Every centimetre matters, and storage design begins by giving the things we love the space they deserve.

The long French summer gives us time to look again at what we own—the pieces we reach for, those that deserve care and the collections that have become part of our lives. From that clarity, a custom closet can be shaped around the person and made to belong naturally to the architecture.
