Inspired by the teachings of Lao Tzu and Confucius and the work of painter Shi Tao, Christian Liaigre found a way to soften the solemnity of this imposing residence, turning Protestant austerity into a expression of calm, contemplation and understated beauty.

More than a simple inspiration, nature has been one of the principal creative lines at Liaigre for more than forty years. The taste for nature and the will to cultivate what is consequently “natural”, have contributed to forging the maison’s identity. Materials, tones and colors, simple lines and a wish for harmony, all go into creating a story whose uniqueness is based on love and respect for nature.

From the archives — Soho penthouse, NY, 2000

After staying at the Mercer Hotel, a project designed by Christian Liaigre, Rupert Murdoch made two decisions: to remain in SoHo and to entrust the design of his new residence to the French designer.

Respecting the building’s original proportions and the spirit of the neighborhood, Liaigre conceived a triplex loft where volumes, light, and noble materials engage in dialogue with SoHo’s industrial architecture. An Asian influence, brought by the owner’s wife, subtly emerges through wide-plank teak flooring, dark wood paneling, and accents of green and copper woven throughout the interiors.

A landmark project reflecting the enduring bond between the House and New York—a founding chapter that continues to reconnect Liaigre with its origins.

Checking into the means settling into an André Balazs loft entirely designed by Christian Liaigre. Guided by his belief that “decoration should not be a fashion,” Liaigre conceived, in the 1990s, a place of understated elegance and quiet luxury in the heart of New York.

Several pieces created for the project became iconic and entered the Liaigre Collection, including the Accueil suspension, the O***m sofa, the Flibuste side table, the Spencer armchair, and the Pastora lamp.

Liaigre welcomes French artist Pauline Guerrier to 77 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris. Through drawing, sculpture, and performance, Guerrier explores ancestral craftsmanship alongside themes of science, faith, and superstition.

Exhibition on view until September 20, 2026, in partnership with gallery.
