This exceptional mask displaying classic Senufo is part of our exhibition La Côte d'Ivoire de Monsieur Ficelle — Collection Itzikovitch’.
It features, but the refined ex*****on points to a Lhoron artist, a caste of smiths active across the Bondoukou-to-Burkina Faso region. Its distinctive traits (banded forehead, facial scars, temple figurine) link it to the Tjembara Senufo, paralleling examples at the Barbier-Mueller Museum and one collected by Hans Himmelheber.
Lost-wax cast in tin, likely buried over two centuries based on tin pest corrosion. One of five known works in this corpus (Père Convers), probably placed on a high-status deceased's head, with no attachment system.
