At the heart of textile transformation, spinning is the process that turns flax fibres into yarn. After preparation, the fibres are aligned, drawn and twisted to create a continuous, resistant thread ready for weaving or knitting.

Unlike raw fibre, yarn brings structure and regularity, making it possible to produce a wide variety of textiles with different qualities and finishes.

When applied to Flax-Linen, spinning reveals the adaptability of the fibre: from fine, delicate yarns to stronger threads suited to more technical uses.

🇫🇷 🌿 Les mots du Lin : connaissez-vous la filature ?

Au cœur de la transformation textile, la filature est l’étape qui permet de transformer la fibre de Lin en fil. Après préparation, les fibres sont alignées, étirées puis torsadées afin de former un fil continu et résistant, prêt à être tissé ou tricoté.

Contrairement à la fibre brute, le fil apporte structure et régularité, rendant possible la création d’une grande diversité de textiles aux propriétés variées.

Appliquée au Lin, la filature révèle toute l’adaptabilité de la fibre : des fils fins et délicats aux fils plus résistants pour des usages techniques.

At the trade show, Biofibix showcased a rear wing for a Zenvo hypercar made from Flax Fibres, illustrating the performance potential of bio-based composites in high-performance applications.

Unlike a simple drying phase, this step requires precise know-how: the stems are carefully spread and turned to ensure even retting and preserve fibre quality.

[ ]🇬🇧 A few weeks ago, the Alliance for European Flax-Linen & H**p took part in JEC World 2026, the global meeting point for composite materials.

On site, we met with key players driving innovation in bio-based composites.

At the booth of Norafin, Johannes Loos presents the company’s expertise as a global leader in technical textiles and natural fibre-based solutions.

Specialised in advanced nonwoven manufacturing, Norafin notably uses hydroentanglement technology to create high-performance materials from Flax fibres.

These engineered nonwovens are used as composite reinforcements in a wide range of applications, combining performance, lightness and sustainability.

From skis to surfboards, these materials are already integrated into real-world products, demonstrating the potential of European Flax-Linen fibres in demanding technical environments.
