Isabelle “Izzy” Bricknall (1954–2026)
My go-to, all-round wing woman - the one who always had my back - has left this mortal coil. To say I’m devastated would be an understatement.
Izzy was a beautiful, compassionate and deeply knowing human being. She understood the impact of her actions and words, and carried that awareness through life with quiet strength.
I’m incredibly grateful that we met twenty years ago. In a strange twist of fate, we discovered we were both twins - although mine sadly left before being born. Perhaps that’s why our bond always felt a little deeper.
Izzy was feisty and unapologetic, something I absolutely adored about her. She stepped to the beat of her own drum and never felt the need to dilute who she was for anyone.
She was also a brilliant creative force. Over the years she worked as a model, singer, fashion designer, stylist, art director, illustrator and artist - bringing a sharp eye and instinct for cutting straight to the heart of an idea. She was also one of my favourite brainstorming partners.
When artists began explaining their work with elaborate theory, Izzy would lean over and whisper, “art bollocks.” And honestly, she was usually right.
Her take on fashion was just as sharp: “The bland leading the bland.”
For me, Izzy was more than a friend. She supported me through so many moments in life and work - always with honesty, insight and encouragement.
For years I encouraged her to write her stories. She had started gathering notes for a book, and knowing Izzy those pages will be full of her wit, clarity and humour. I hope one day they find their way into the world.
Izzy was irreplaceable. Entirely her own person.
Those of us lucky enough to have known her will carry her spirit with us always.
The evocative and utterly unforgettable Izzy. R.I.P. 🤍
