Fur looking a bit flat? Your colour choice could be why

The most common mistake I see when people try to create realistic fur is using just one colour.

Look closely at your reference photo. A brown animal is rarely just brown! You’ll see lighter and darker shades, warm tones and cooler ones, all working together.

Blend a few of those shades into your wool before you start adding fur. Those subtle variations make such a difference to how natural your finished piece looks

It’s a slightly longer one for today’s tip. I’m talking eyes again.
Get the eyes right and you are 80% there on realism of the piece.

Try this if you struggle to get delicate features or make your eyes realistic. Do you suffer with bulky eyes that makes your animal or bird look like a cartoon character? Here’s yet another use for that reverse needle.
Works on all eyes. Save this post and Follow for more tips to help you take your needle felting to that next level

So many questions about this little tool! Want to know more? Follow me for the hints and tips I share.
So this is just 3 needles that I’ve put in my ‘homemade’ holder.
My most reached for tool for felting down (although I made one for my reverse needles too, so I can do larger areas in reverse, faster)
It’s just a simple 2 part non toxic silicone putty.
Here’s the one I bought (you don’t need loads as it lasts for AGES)
https://link.amazon/B08g6R7r5 I made these little holders over a year ago, daily use and they are still fantastic.
I even tried 4 needles in a row (spoiler… 3 is the sweet spot)
Any questions? Go for it in the comments, i@ happy to help you in your felting journey
