I’m Nina, an artist and tableware designer based in Altrincham, Cheshire. In 2020, I founded Nina D — a homeware brand rooted in my Swedish heritage and shaped by a lifelong connection to ritual, storytelling and the quiet language of shared meals.
My background is in Theatre Design at Wimbledon School of Art in London, followed by a career in luxury retail and experiential design with brands including Burberry, Asprey and De Beers. This led to work within international luxury environments and event spaces, including high-profile yacht and lifestyle experiences such as the Cannes Croisette Cup Superyacht Trophy, led by Lionel Péan. These projects refined my understanding of design within rarefied settings, where narrative, detail and atmosphere must work seamlessly together.
In 2019, my practice shifted toward tableware design, combining theatre design thinking with illustration. Each collection begins as a narrative — inspired by place, memory, and my Swedish heritage — translated into hand-painted watercolour compositions that become objects for the table.
All designs are created by hand in watercolour on carefully selected paper, without digital alteration. Layers of pigment are built to create depth, texture and movement, preserving the authenticity of the original artwork. This process is central to Nina D, and extends into production through collaboration with manufacturers who share a commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability and precision.
In a fast-paced world, shared mealtimes remain one of the most meaningful forms of connection. This philosophy sits at the heart of Nina D — creating work that brings warmth, story and understated beauty into carefully designed spaces.
