A small room doesn’t always mean a cheaper project.

Small spaces are often the most challenging to design because every centimetre matters.

In this 7m² bedroom, we needed to fit a bed, a desk, and plenty of storage. While standard furniture could work, it would likely leave awkward gaps and waste valuable space.

That’s why bespoke joinery is often the best solution for compact rooms. It can be designed around the exact dimensions of the space, helping every centimetre work harder and creating a result that feels fully integrated.

Sometimes it’s not the bigger rooms that need the most planning—it’s the smaller ones.

Would you invest in bespoke joinery to gain extra functionality, or would you prefer to work with standard furniture and adapt the layout around it?

One thing I’ve learned as a designer:

People often focus on colours, furniture and finishes first.

But the homes that stay tidy and feel calm day after day usually have something else behind them — a well-thought-out storage plan.

Because when everything has a place, your home feels effortlessly organised. ☺️

The result isn’t just a tidier home — it’s a calmer mind, smoother routines, and less time spent searching for what you need. 🪄

Just 7 square metres, a double bed, plenty of storage… and still room for either a wardrobe or a desk.

Before a single cabinet goes in, we map out every finish, every texture, every detail. Here’s the full material palette and layout for this open-plan kitchen in Birmingham — green fronts, light oak, herringbone flooring, and a layout designed around how this family actually lives. ☺️

Beautiful kitchens without upper cabinets can work really well, but only when the storage works too.

I always think it’s important to look beyond trends and consider how you actually use your kitchen day to day. 🤔How much storage do you need? Do you cook often? Where will everyday items realistically go?

Good design starts with real life first. 🫶🏻

As I mentioned in the previous post, here is the darker version of the same bedroom concept. 🤩

This time I changed the wallpaper, paint colour, and textiles to create a moodier, richer feel — but the overall layout and concept stayed exactly the same. Swipe ➡️ to see the full shopping list and total budget, because interestingly… the price difference is actually very small.

What pushed this version slightly higher was mainly the paint choice. Instead of a standard range, I used Farrow & Ball 🎨paint, simply because when it comes to deep, moody colours, I genuinely think they do some of the richest and most beautiful shades. There’s a depth to their colours that’s very hard to replicate.

And I think it’s a good reminder that you can spend a very similar amount of money and still create two completely different atmospheres.

So now I’m curious — which one feels more luxurious or more attractive to you: the light version or the dark version?

(If you missed the lighter scheme, have a look at the previous post 👀)

I used AI to help visualise this bedroom concept, pulling all the elements together into photorealistic renders that would’ve taken hours to create manually. 🦾✨

Swipe ➡️ to see the same view with all item notes and prices added, so you can actually see what goes into a design like this behind the scenes. 👀

Everything in this bedroom is fully shoppable — 9 carefully selected pieces, using current prices, with the total coming to just over £1,600.

I think it’s genuinely useful to see what a full bedroom design actually costs, not just the big pieces, but how everything adds up together to create the final feeling of the space.

Also, in my previous post I shared two versions of this bedroom — a lighter scheme and a moodier, darker option. Would it be useful if I created the same breakdown for the dark version too, so we could compare both the mood and the price differences between the two designs?

And if you’d like links to all 9 items used in this bedroom, comment “links” and I’ll send them over ✨
