An original vintage poster published to promoter the BOOK FAIR in New York on the 22nd September 1985. This example was published in the early 1990s.

Just arrived in stock is this fabulous original poster from 1968 to celebrate 50 years of the Bauhaus movement. Now available to view at our shop in Islington. 1968 “50 Jahre Bauhaus”

Original vintage advertising poster published to promote the anniversary exhibition held from 5 May to 28 July 1968 at the Wurttembergische Kunstverein in Stuttgart to celebrate 50 years of the Bauhaus movement. Iconic design featuring a minimalist composition of colourful geometric shapes against a blue background, by the renowned Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer, with the title above in stylised letters. Published by the Wurttembergische Art Society Stuttgart.

Austrian-born Herbert Bayer (1900-1985) studied at the Bauhaus in Germany and later returned to the school to teach advertising, design, and typography. He emigrated to the United States in 1938, where he built an influential career as an artist and graphic designer. Bayer designed this poster for a 1968 Bauhaus exhibition held in honor of the school’s 50th anniversary.

The image celebrates the color and shape exercises famously used by Wassily Kandinsky in his teaching at the Bauhaus. Kandinsky established through a simple questionnaire that most people associate the color yellow with a triangle, red with a square and blue with a circle. These shape and color combinations, explored extensively by students in Kandinsky’s drawing and painting courses, have since become synonymous with the Bauhaus.

Overall size 42 x 59.5cm. Condition is excellent (unfolded) and has been kept in an archival protective sleeve, never previously framed and kept out of direct light.
