Do you actually know how to get the best from a beeswax candle?
Most people do not - and its not their fault. Beeswax burns differently from paraffin or soy, and a few simple habits make a significant difference to how long it lasts and how well it burns.
The most common mistake we see is blowing out the candle before the wax pool has reached the edges on the first burn. Once tunnelling starts, it is very difficult to reverse - and you lose a significant amount of burn time as a result.
Here are the three things that matter most:
- Always allow the wax pool to reach the edges on the first burn - for a pillar candle this means at least 2-3 hours
- Trim the wick to 5mm before every single burn - not just the first
- Never blow it out - use a snuffer or wick dipper
We have just published a full care guide on the blog covering everything - first burn, storage, bloom, tealights, tapers and more. If you have ever wondered why your beeswax candle tunnelled or developed a white coating, the answers are all in there.
