So I need your help …
Below is my lovely wee shop next to Spudbuds & Taylor Manning, I am trying to find out what is behind this void space and why it was boxed off like this (see photos)
Nobody seems to be able to tell me anything as to why it was blocked off or what is behind it.
We have drilled small holes into the plasterboard to try to see inside but there’s a brick wall behind the plasterboard so we can’t see any further.
Apart from creating a whole lot of mess and having to shut the shop unnecessarily, I don’t want to knock into it to discover that there was a very good reason for blocking it off and have to brick it back up again.
Is there anyone who remembers the shop in the 70’s/80’s and remembers the layout inside?
It has been various different types of businesses over the years …
Solicitors, Estate Agents, Hairdressers, Barbers, Florists etc
The previous owner prior to me bought in in the mid 90’s I thinks that it was like that because he doesn’t recollect doing it.
The owner of upstairs at No 31 has owned his unit since the early 80’s and couldn’t offer any help either 🤷🏻♀️
There’s been suggestions of a former fireplace & chimney, a filled in basement, a dungeon 😵💫, a hiding place for bodies 😳😱
But seriously, if anyone can help me find out what is behind it and avoid potentially costly repairs, I would greatly appreciate it.
It takes up quite a lot of floor space which is essential to retailers.
I have exciting plans for this unit and it would be great if I could take it away and give myself some more room.
