🎭 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝟭𝟱𝟬𝟬-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲

Bangor Cathedral will become the setting for its own story this October as Ysgol Glanaethwy and friends present Dinas Noddfa – City of Refuge, a new production written and directed by Cefin Roberts.

Through drama, music and song, performers will bring to life colourful characters from Bangor’s past, taking audiences from the community founded by St Deiniol to the city of today — exploring welcome, shelter and belonging along the way.

Featuring a community cast, Côr Cofnod and Côr Hogia’r Ddwylan, the production is primarily in Welsh, with Welsh learners very welcome.

❤️ 𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟰𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀

The Lui family marked their final day at the Garden Hotel on 1 October, saying goodbye to their business and family home since 1984.

From charity buffets, raising thousands of pounds for charity, to school visits celebrating Chinese culture, the family’s contribution to Bangor has reached far beyond the restaurant. During the pandemic, they also cooked and donated more than 800 fresh meals to Ysbyty Gwynedd staff.

In an emotional Facebook post, Andrew and Alice Lui’s six daughters wrote: “You were never just our business. You were our home.”

Thank you, Andrew, Alice and the Lui family, for more than four decades of hospitality, generosity and memories. You will always be part of Bangor’s community. ❤️

👏 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆

From family entertainment and live music to free legal advice and students helping care for our city, there’s plenty to celebrate in the university’s latest community update:

🎭 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝘁 Pontio Bangor – The Gruffalo comes to the stage on 9–10 October, followed by the new BANG! music festival on 23–24 October, in partnership with FOCUS Wales. Regular activities include Caffi Babis for babies and parents, and weekly Dance for Parkinson’s sessions.

🌿 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 – More than 300 visitors enjoyed its recent historical open day celebrating 200 years of the Menai Bridge. Next up are the Fungus Foray on 3 October and an Autumn Flowers Workshop on 10 October.

⚖️ 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 – Bangor University’s Legal Advice Clinic continues to support local people and is now also offering advice to farmers in partnership with Gamlins Law. Enquiries: [email protected]

💚 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 – Volunteers have been picking up litter across Bangor, helping replenish Treborth’s Healing Gardens, joining the Mayor’s Clean Up and supporting bat conservation.

🎶 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮 will perform 'The Planets' in Prichard-Jones Hall on 21 November.

🌺 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗲𝘀 – The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch opens to the public on 3 October, offering an opportunity to visit the memorial room honouring 8,500 soldiers, sailors and airmen from north Wales and Powys who lost their lives in the First World War.
