This past weekend has been another ‘scorcher’ ☀️😎⛱️ so our featured maker this week involves woodturning with fire! 🔥

Thank you to Kimberly at Wern Wood turning for sharing photos of her makes with us- and what unique and stunning pieces these are 😍

Kimberly is a self-taught woodturner, and this ‘Fire Bowl’ was turned from a Poplar blank from English Woods, charred on the outside and coloured on the inside after turning.

This week’s featured maker is Worcester-based Anita, and we were blown away by these beautifully crafted tool handles, made with yew from English Woods.

She’s shared some of the challenges of working with yew:
‘I knew it would be harder to get a clean finish but flippin’ heck!’

We think her hard work and determination definitely paid off!

We really love all things trees so a recent visit to Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire was a real treat. The colours at this time of year were just amazing. It’s also a great place to test our tree ID knowledge and so nice to see the different tree species which produce the different timbers we know so well. Definitely worth a visit if you’re passing by!

Meet the team!

We thought it was time you saw the faces behind English Woods. You’ll see some familiar ones and some new ones too. These are the people who are busy working away all week to get your blanks cut, orders packed and messages answered.

We’re passionate about beautiful wood and great customer service and this team helps us to provide those things to you. From Benj’s eye for detail, Steve’s 25 years of experience and Maddie’s organisation. And of course lots of cuddles from Edna too! 🐶

Exciting news….. we’re moving!

We wanted to give you a heads up that we will soon be moving premises.

We’re staying in Devon but are moving a bit further west, towards Great Torrington.

During the move, there’ll be a week when we won’t be sending out orders whilst we get everything moved and set up at the new premises. The website will still be live and you’ll be able to place your order but it will take longer to get to you than usual.

This will most likely be at the end of August, although the exact dates are yet to be decided.

We’ll keep you updated once we have confirmed dates.

So, if you’re wood stocks are getting a bit low and you know you’ll be needing to restock before September, we’d recommend getting your order in within the next couple of weeks to avoid having to wait.

P.S. we have vacancies at the new premises so if you’re local to Great Torrington and are looking for an exciting opportunity to join the English Woods team then get in touch!
